wobblie steering wheel - MINI2

I have fitted some new alloys all round.
I keep getting a wobble when my mini reaches about 40MPH

I have had the wheels balanced 3 times but still get this. someone mentioned it may be due to the piece of plastic that goes between the alloy wheel and the hub of the wheel.

any ideas

I had the same problem and it was solved when I fitted the rings. Did your alloys come with centring rings?

I may be totally wrong , but I once the wheels are firmly bolted on there shouldn't be any movement that the plastic insert piece can affect. My thinking is that the plastic part is mainly to help locate the alloy while fitting. Although as I said maybe totally wrong!

Someone mentioned that the plastic ones can cause problems and that metal is a better choice.
any thoughts ?

I suffer from a ''wobbely'' steering wheel.

I was told it was either two things because i already have spacers.

1, My wheel alignment may be slightly out.

2, Or my alloys are slightly buckeled. Didnt realise you could but getting caught in pot holes can misshapen the alloy.

Having the right spigot rings is essential otherwise the wheel simply doesn't locate properly. Just make sure they are the correct internal diameter for the MINI.

If you're certain you've got the correct rings and you still have a wobble, find yourself a tyre specialist who can balance the wheels using finger plates which locate the wheel on the balancing machine using the stud holes and NOT the centre hole of the wheel. This is because the centre hole is not necessarily accurately machined and the "cones" that most tyre shops use don't locate the wheel correctly.
