Offline | 205/40/17 to replace standard 205/45/17 Anyone swapped to 205/40/17 rubber. I have been looking around at tyres for my Mini Cooper, and this size seems much more common and substantially cheaper for most brands. seems that people tend to go to the wider 215/40/17, but this also generates mixed opinions. Any reasons why people don't go for the 205/40/17 route? I had this size on my ibiza and i know it may give a little bit harsh a ride due to the thinner side wall, but they aren't that bad. Also since changing from run flats (stiff side walls) i probably won't notice much of a difference. As for alloy wheel protection when going over pot holes etc, had a few instances with the ibiza and never did any real damage to the wheels. cheers for any feedback |

Offline | Standard 205/45/17 tyre size limits your options. Many more tyres in 205/40/17 and 215/40/17 sizes. Trouble is 205/40/17 knocks your speedo and odometer out a fair bit (both would read 3.44% high). Now if you choose 215/40/17 the error is only 2% and hey, wider tyres look better and this is normally a cheaper tyre size to buy. Toyos on ebay 205/40/17 about £73, 215/40/17 about £63 (OK before someone says it - at the moment you can buy 3x 205/40/17 Toyos and get 1 free from someone on ebay). That's got to be a bargain! The change from runflats should more than compensate for the lower sidewall height. Hope this helps ![]() |

| MINI2 Senior | Surely 205/40/17 is way too skinny 215 40 17 gets closer to the right diameter. It might be worth looking in the forsale section- I have 4 perfect condition nearly new (1000miles) goodyear eagle F1 GSD3 for £250 Just a thought- These are one of the best tyres for the Mini, if not the best. |

Offline | I'm in the same situation; now I drive on 205/45/17 runflats, they are almost wore out. Over few weeks a want new ones. I als want a tire with lower sizes becouse I think that a normal tire in standard size 205/45/17 like the runflats would be too soft for me. First look: brand and type, I think about Toyo's Proxes T1-R (should I???_ Second look: size, 215/40/17 or 205/40/17 |
