There is a space saver option but it doesn't fit an S because the exhaust is in the way of where it would be stored.

It was acceptable in the 80's

just in the boot. I just want it for country trips, not for every day use.

so i assume they are available as a spare part then.

They must be but i can't find them on RealOEM. Have to ask your dealer I think.

It won't lie flat in the boot though and probably wont sit upright with the parcel shelf in place. Might be better of with a 15" steel if you can afford the space.

I have a space saver, which fits in a sling under the boot floor in my Cooper .

The thing that concerns me is, if I ever need to use the spare, the ordinary road wheel will never fit in the space that the space saver has vacated. Consequently, the ordinary road wheel will have to go in the car; great if I'm on my own, but impossible if we are loaded up with family & luggage.

Now imagine having to do the same thing with a 17" wheel, which is nearly twice as bulky as a 15" wheel. Just something to think about before you buy a spacesaver if you are also running large road wheels and often carry passengers and/or luggage.

Tigger.

Was thinking about this too...so there's nowhere at all to put a small spacesaver in the S then? Not under the boot floor, under the rear seats, or anything?

Mr G,

You can get it as a spare part from your mini dealer - tyre and rim are about $370 Australian.
Alternately, you can buy a Honda Civic spare (for more money from honda) or for around $50 from your local wrecking yard.

If you're putting it in your boot, you'll be able to get away with a larger tyre on your spare - the MINI space saver spare is just over 3 inches smaller in diameter than the standard wheels. You might want to use the 15" wheel with a 135/90R15 tyre, giving a diameter of 24.57 inches, much closer to the factory 24".

The part number for the space saver wheel (without tire) is 36-11-1-509-164.
