Question R90's and RunFlats

Hey all, I'm still new but I read everything here.
I have a question about the MINI aftermarket wheels that are listed in the aftermarket catalog at the dealers. I'm interested in the R90 wheels. I want to buy them elsewhere and save $1000 from what the dealer is charging for them. I know they are made by BBS but BBS doesn't make a R90 wheel. Does anyone know what the BBS model # of the wheel is?
Also, I want to make sure that I have run flats when I get my aftermarket wheels (17"). However, I know that the runflat monitor is not done in the tire, but in the wheel. Does that mean that I need runflat tires to use the runflat system? If I still do, does anyone know a manufacturer in the US who makes the 205/45 17 runflat all-season tires that are on the MCS?
Sorry this is long, but I am frustrated and need answers.

Thanks

MC - VR/Black, Black/Tan Cordoba, Sunroof, Xenon

The tyre pressure monitor system (runflat monitor as you call it) is done from the ABS sensors, not the wheel or tyres. This system works on all tyre types not just runflats

Why do you want Run-Flats when you have a COOPER with a jack and a spare? It makes no sense to me. 17" Run-Flats are going to cost $300+ a copy to replace. A good set of non run-flat 17's are $150 a copy. So why get run-flats

MINI is the only way to get the R90 wheels. BBS does not sell them through any other channels.

Here's the thing. Since you have a Cooper you can buy the R90's by themselves ($1551), then get 4 regular non runflat tires ($600), then sell you stock wheels and tires (-$500). So your total out of pocket would be more like $1600. Not great, but not bad either.

I thought the spare only came in 15" so you couldn't use it with 17" wheels anyway

The COOPER comes with a little donut tire spare and a jack (even if you get the sport package with the 16" run-flats). It's only the COOPER S that doesn't come with the spare (exhaust is there) or the jack (the battery on the cooper S is in that well).

If you wind up using the spare, you may have to put wheel you're taking of inside the car, because the spare is NOT full sized.

Colorado,
Thanks for the info.
Yes, I know it would be cheaper to go that route with the non run-flats. I'd still like to know...Will the run-flat monitor still work with non run flats or do you have to get run-flats for the system to work? I'm not sure because the monitor is in the brake system and not the tire itself.

Also, the wife wants run flats so I might be stuck there.

KenL is correct.

If you get regular tires the pressure monitoring will work. However, with regular tires, you'd know pretty quickly on your own if you had a flat anyway.

In the UK I'm fairly sure that you do not get the spare/jack with the Cooper fitted with 16" Runflats.
Can anyone confirm this is the case?

I have a 02 mini cooper with chilli pack and when i quizzed the dealer about runflats vs spare wheel they told me the 15" space saver spare would not suit the 16" 5 stars with run-flats. also you are correct that when you get the 16" wheels you don't get the spare/jack - all you get is the key for the locking wheelnut in the toolkit.

I asked them if they would supply the jack/wheel brace for maintenance purposes and they replied saying that it wasn't included either as the TLC package should remove any need for this!!

Thanks Wul, that's what I suspected...
