Offline | run flats on regular rims. my observation. considering that run flats cost substantially more, i was initially hesitant about swapping out my rims and re-using the stock runflats, i still am after. my thoughts and observations. 1) stock rims weigh in at more than 10kg each, forged, 6.9kg. 2) original rims have a different rolled profile to prevent bead slippage. 3) tire pressure monitoring system is in e hub, not the rim. 4) runflats not designed to work on regular rims. once deflated, it's substantially easier for bead to slip off during hard cornering. 5) the weight of the runflats is not that much heavier. it's is, but not substantial. i'm posting cuz had i known (4), i would have re-considered. The more you know, the less you know you know... |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | It can be very easy to do as the runflat indicator is quite frankly poor. It is possible to drive for significant time before it realises the tyre is deflated. Seems to work well on straight continuous speed roads but for round town you can drive a long way without it warning you, even when there is 0psi in the tyres. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |

| Trained Monkey | There is no tyre pressure monitoring system so to speak, it's an adaptation/advancement of the ABS sensor, it detects the speed the wheels are turning, and bases the "flat" warning if one is spinning faster than the others. There aint no party like my nana's tea party |

Offline | That appears to depend on the brand of runflat. The dunlop website for runflats clearly states that their tyres can be mounted on any rim. See the DSST section of the link below. Dunlop Tyres UK I asked the same question of pirelli with a view to using the runflats off my new Cooper on aftermarket alloys. Pirelli sent me the following reply via email. "Thank you for your enquiry. These tyres are recommended to be fitted to EH2 (Double extended Hump) rims but, are permissible to be fitted to H2(Double Hump) rims." This may help clear up a few things. I have to admit Pirelli's response didn't fill me with confidence. ![]() MODERN MINI - BEST COOPER NOMINEE - PLEASE VOTE FOR ME!!! |

Offline | Interesting. As you say, the Dunlop site states "DSST-tyres can be mounted on any standard rim", so that would be a thumbs up form them. What exactly does that email from Pirelli mean? Have seen some rims on Ebay and was wondering about keeping RF tyres... |
