Australia Falken AZENIS RT-615

Still look around for some new tyres to go on the new Pro Race 1.2's and came across these http://www.vulcantire.com/azenis_rt615_t.htm

Read through a few forums for other cars and clubs and they seem to get good / excellent comments.
Has anyone put them on their mini and does any one have any comments?

I have 17" so looking at the 215/40/R17 87W.

Cheers

I dunno any Mini's with RT615 - but a mate of mine had them on an Echo Sportivo and he's reasonably happy with them. Heaps better in wet than the previous RT215 but excellent in dry. The shortcomings of this tyre include high noise level and short life (140 as opposed to normal sports tyre rating of 280 or so). If you're planning to get 17" don't expect it to last too much longer than 10,000km. Other than that it's a 'cheap' tyre given the performance on offer

Hi PM
Thanks, that backs up other threads I have read.
Not overly concerned about the 10,000 km as that is about 18 months of driving
Any one else had experience?

They're really sticky. They're really noisy. They'll follow imperfections in the road to an annoying degree. They don't last very long. They have very little grip as it gets colder (below 50° F they're not very good at all). I use them as track / autocross tires, not for daily driving.

Not sure on the local AUD price, but will find out tomorrow.
Thanks for your comments SNID, they are a lot different to everything else I have read but that is the whole idea of this thread, I want to find out peoples experience and hence help with my decision.
Did you have these on your mini or something else, and what size?
How long is "don't last long"?
The below 50F is no really a problem for us.

I was looking at the Kumho Ecsta KU15 MX, but these are no longer available in Aus.
Therefore looking for some interesting tyres.

Anyone else with help?

We used to have the falken ZE 512's, pretty good for cheap tres in the dry, but pathetic in anything more than that sadly I'm not sure how similar they are...

At the end of the day you get what you pay for with tyres, those things that keep you on the road

I got this comment from another forum, hope it helps

Chris

Falken 615 I believe is a fantastic street tyre. The RT 615 is no good if you are going to do 30k km in city traffic anually. You're better off with something else.

I cannot really comment on miles / km for the Aeznis as I only use them on the track and autocrossing. But something with a 200 treadware should last about half the time as something with a 400 treadware (especially if both tires are from the same manufacturer).

For daily use in the summer, I've had (besides the runflats) Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Position, Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, and BF Goodrich G-Force Sport all in 205/50R16. Bridgestones were my favorite, but too expensive. Goodyears are almost as good, and cost less. The BFG are a noticable step down from the other two, but nice and cheap. I have the BFGs now because I have another set of wheels and tires for the track, so I don't need super high end tires day to day.

The Azenis I've used were 215/45R16. I just this week got a new set of play tires, Hankook RS2 Z212 also in 215/45R16.

I know a few people that have used Azenis as daily driver tires. It just doesn't seem to make sense to me... Most of the time I'm daily driving I do not need a super high performance tire, so why wear one down putting boring highway miles on it? My theory is to use a tire a few notches down in performance for daily driving - which will last much longer than something like an Azenis and provide enough performance to have fun... then get a second set of wheels with the fun tires on them. If I were made of money, my fun wheels would have Toyo RA1 R-compund tires on them.

Agree with what Snid said. Unfortunately S-03 is fairly expensive in Austrlaia and from what I've heard the Aust-bound F1 GSD3 that's coming out of Thailand is not of the same quality as ones coming out of Germany Something likes Dunlop SportMaxx would make a very good street tyre for daily driving (and more mileage too!).

For track though, other options (similar to RT615 in nature) include Kumho V70A & Hankook’s Ventus RS-2 - both gives you even more performance than RT615 at a reasonable price. RT615 I believe is actually more "road-orientated" compared to the 2.
