R90's but not Runflats!

All,

Now I have changed my Runflat Fins to R90's not Runflats, I assume I am illegal for not having a spare at the moment?

So....is it just a case of buying some tyre weld to solve the problem? What is Mini Mobility? Is this Tyre Weld but Mini Branded???

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

I don't think it is illegal to not have a spare, but it would be a pain if you do get a puncture without some sort of tyre weld kit!
I only presume this as a car can pass the MOT without a spare but if the spare is fitted and doesn't have the correct amount of tread or the tyre is illegal then it fails. Someone else let me know if I am wrong.

Sorry a bit off topic but could you post a pic of the R90's on your Mini? I have a Pure silver MCS too and have been debating which wheels to get. My current S Spokes were very badly refurbed by the previous owner and are not flaking Think they are beyond economical repair.

Did you go for anthracite or silver? I love pure silver but after seeing the Dark Silver with the anthracite R90's in the accessories catalogue I keep wishing mine was Dark Silver now. Haha

remove pricing from external link titles

I've got non-runflats on my R99s, and I've swapped the entire under-floor pack to a genuine MINI kit with the compressor and tyre sealant.

I think others in the same situation carry a bottle of something like Holts Tyre Weld and a small compressor like the following:

Michelin 12v Digital Tyre Inflator
Halfords 12V Tyre Inflator

I would have done this as it's much more cost-effective than changing the underfloor pack, I just happened to have a compressor/sealant pack spare at home

Hi Jez,

Pictures at the thread here

http://www.mini2.com/forum/mini-coop...some-mods.html

I went for pure silver, but retained Black nuts to match my roof and mirrors!

Can put you in touch with a man that can....if interested.

Over and above what came as standard with your Cooper toolkit you would get the compressor (£39.83 + VAT) and a bottle of foam (£7.45 + VAT)

If you are worried about getting a flat I would advise going with aftermarket (cheaper!) alternatives to these, or the embarrassment of calling out MINI Emergency Services!

If you go for the Holt's tyre weld from Halfords you don't strictly need a compressor, I do
however to be on the safe side. If you are still covered by Mini emergency you may wish
to buy the more expensive Mini Mobility kit. If it doesn't work and you call them out they can't
complain.

but smile when you shove them down the stairs

Yes, still covered by ME as the vehicle is only 3 weeks old! Might be worth going for the Mobility kit then. Well me mini is going into garage today for a rattle (Great just what I needed!) so will check out the mobility kit.

Thanks

I thought it was still illegal to drive on the Motorway without a spare? - Technically I think regardless of runflats too...

The MOT is not problem though as they only examine the condition of the spare if there is one fitted, if no spare is fitted then it can't fail on its condition.

I don't think that's the case as every MINI One and Cooper on 15" wheels would be breaking the law by driving on the motorway?

True - I was never sure how BMW had got round it, as I know that used to be the case but that may well be out of date now I wasn't sure. The MOT bit is correct though

I've now removed the horrible run-flats on mine, and what a difference it's made. The steering now tells me what the car is doing!

I've gone down the tyre weld route with mine. But to be honest, I think I may purchase a mini space saver spare wheel. That tyre weld stuff is ok, if you catch the puncture soon enough. I've had one before though that ripped the tyre to shreds on the motorway. If that happened to me now, i'd have to call the RAC.

All that hassle when you could have a spare on in less than 15 minutes.
But if you have that mini assistance thingy, then maybe that won't bother you too much.
