Offline | Tyre fitter responsible for slow leak? Hi all, Recently had 4 new Pirelli Runflats fitted to my Cooper - 17" S-Spokes 45/205 tyres. This is the first time the car has had tyres since new. Previously, although checking the pressures cold twice a week, I rarely had to put any air in the tyres. Now on my passenger front tyre it seems to be losing around 6 - 8 PSI over the course of a week, the driver’s front around 3 - 4 PSI and the rears are like before rarely needing a top up. Could faulty valves be causing this? Is it a case of returning to the tyre fitter and asking them to rectify the problem? Thanks, Geoff. |

Offline | It could be that the tyre fitter hasn't applied enough grease whilst fitting the tyre or you might have a little corrosion on the inside of the alloy meaning there's uneven contact between the tyre and the wheel itself. I've had this problem several times with my S-Spokes... Either way, I'd return to the garage and ask him to refit the tyre explaining the circumstances. At the same time ask if he'd check for corrosion... |

Offline | I had the exact same problem a while back- my new tyres were losing air where the wheel rim edge meets the tyre. The problem is because the runflats are less flexible on the side wall and due to this can result in a poor seal. I went back to the tyre place and they poured 'sudsy' water (very technical! ) on the wheels and we could see a tiny froth of bubbles appearing at the edge. They just took the tyres off and put them back on with some sealant and they were fine after that! Good luck!! |
