JCW 16" Drilled Front Discs

The JCW section of the price list shows JCW 16" Drilled Front Discs for Cooper S Standard Brake. It seems only to be available for the R56 MCS.

Does anyone have any information or opinion on this, which I presume is a dealer-fit option.

In my '04 Cooper on OE, I have experienced brake fade a few times, certainly when working it hard on mountain roads.

The front brakes used on the 2nd Gen MCS are the same brakes as in the JCW Brake Kit for the 1st Gen MINI.

You won't be able to fit JCW brakes with the R82 wheels on your MINI.

....I thought they were, thanks for confirming. That also confirms that our GTT /Porsche brake kit should go straight on too

Fair point Dave, we're OK on that score ,our GTT/Porsche kit has 14.7mm holes in the Alloy Bell.

So will the "NEW" standard brake set up go straight on to the R53?? As said above it is basically the old JCW set up,but does it have different brackets???
As it doesnt carry a little JCW sticker i bet it doesnt carry the same price tag and could be a worthwhile upgrade.

Taking care of business

Thanks. The Price List show them as GBP79.95, so I presume the additional GBP240 is to fit them!!! Maybe it will be worth waiting until the car is run in and needs new pads (although I'm on 85k with my Cooper on the same pads...).

Let me rephrase my original question:

Is it worth getting these fitted? I'm about to order a new MCS.

Is this an easy fit, its not usually difficult to fit new discs.
Also any one know if the JCW caliper stickers are available?

With larger brake discs and callipers at the front and special brake linings on the rear axle, this first-class braking system always provides immediate response with plenty of bite. Available for the new MINI Cooper and the new MINI Cooper S, (Wheel restrictions apply).

This is straight of the Mini web site, it says bigger calipers and bigger discs.....

NO!!!

Buy the parts, spend the extra money on a service manual and do it yourself!

Replacing rotors (the disc potion) on a disc braked car is one of the easiest DIY jobs out there. Replacing pads isn't much tougher. If you have a jack, stand, lug nut wrench and a small selection of other sockets (or metric wrenches) this is an EASY job. MAYBE 15-20 minutes per wheel for the fist-timer.

...oh, and not to mention the satisfaction you'll get from learning how to do it yourself from now on.

But are the JCW brakes just big discs or is it different calipers as well? Does any one know?

well, going by the fact that the item states it as just discs, i'd presume it was just discs.

and you certainly wont get calipers, pads and discs for 80 quid !

Would you consider an AP kit?
