JCW Brake Disc Replacements

Right.

I have a 52 plate MCS with a JCW brakes (including the rear pads)

Simple question but as yet seems unasked on hear (I did a search but it only turned up stuff on standard disc replacement)

Is there a replacement front disc for the JCW available, other than through the dealer network? Eg. Is there a slotted or even standard version of the JCW disc available from mintex or anyone? I ask this especially because the R56 MCS now uses the JCW brakes on the front as the standard sport brake...therefore is there a performance upgrade to this out yet, or even a cheaper way to get the disc than through JCW/BMW?

Having seen an R56 MCS the rear discs appear larger than on the current model (It may have been my imagination though) so if they are bigger is there anyone who knows if they can be fitted onto the rear of the current R53? Or if the whole rear brake assembly can be transplanted?

Ta

Richard

Bump .... Someone must have definative answer for this. Especially now the R56 S uses the same discs and calipers as the former JCW kit on the R53.

ive not seen anything either as i thought this would have been done by some one try asking tarox as i know that they do discs and pads (they need the back plate) to order for not much more and this could be the best way to get some better slotted discs

Hi there
I have checked with both my local dealer and also Chris at Woodmans as I want to do this on my GP
The answers have been the same not available for GP / R53 only for R56 - this I do not understand but this I have to accept it for the moment.
I must say I am tempted to just go and buy a set and 'play' with them.

Roland
Do You know if there are braided hoses available for GP (JCW) brakes all round as I want to not only do a disk change but also braided hoses and dot 5.1 fluid. If so I could be paying you a visit to do the whole lot - assuming the price is right. PM
me with details etc.

I read that braided hoses don't make all that much difference in the MINI because they all so short - no appreciable advantage.

Don't take it as gospel - Just what I read.

i was told the opposit by a few folk all of whom are track their mcs's they said the hoses were the one of the vital bits as the rubber ones on the MINI are poor and expaned far to easily under the heat and force of heavy braking

Braids work well on the MINI. Just remember to change them when you do a fluid change (2 years) as its very hard to tell if they are perishing ... they should last longer than 2 years but the chafing and the fact that you can't see the wear means it might be safest to spend a few bob every fluid change and do them then for safety.

The slotted/grooved discs that are available from the dealers for the R56 will fit the R53 if you have the JCW brake kit as they are the standard brakes on the R56 cooper s,less the red paint and JCW logo

Are the disc on R56 and on the old JCW the same?

As I know have the R56 294mm disc and the JCW 292mm.

Does anyone know a source and prices for braided lines for the R53 JCW BBK?

Does the braid not protect the lines better than standard or does the metal rub and cause additional wear?

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!

Well, let's see... I'm certainly no expert on the matter of brake lines, but I remember skim reading someone's debate somewhere on here (don't have time to search for it right now) that you'd only really need braided lines if you were planning on doing rally-type driving where there's an increased risk of stone/rock/pebble/etc damage to the brake lines.

I remember it being argued somewhat tenuously that an ability to sustain higher fluid compression within braided lines gave an advantage over rubber lines - but I think these theories were largely debunked as a 'placebo effect'. Other than that, I can't remember if there were any other technical benefits - but that many agreed it looked nicer and made them feel better about their brake kits as a whole.

Though, if someone who actually has braided lines (for the record - I don't) could comment - that'd probably be far more helpful.

All the best,
Andrew.

Ok, just did a quick search for you and turned up this:

stainless steel brake hoses

Wasn't the thread I was thinking of, but also discusses some benefits/drawbacks to braided hoses.

All the best,
Andrew.

I do tend to resurrect the odd old thread

Thanks for your input

Have found that a couple of places that sell the lines and they are about £70... bit more reading is needed I recon...
