DIY Is there a noticable ride difference between run flats and standard tyres?

Hi all,

Is there a noticeable improvement in ride when fitting standard tyres to JCW 18" Double spoke alloys rather than the standard run flat tyres?

I have just purchased a Mini Cooper S Works fitted with these wheels and am considering converting it to standard tyres rather than run flats.

Thanks,
Darren

Night and day difference... its hard not to love just about any tire after using run-flats, but these BF Goodrich 'gforce' tires perform well on the mini.

To give you an idea. 17 OEM Wheels with 205/45 R17 Run flats are less comfortable than 18 Wheels with 215/35 R18 normal tyres.

Goodyear Eagle F1's and Yoko Parada Spec 2's are mint.

I also found the Falken FK-451's a great improvement over stock tyres though, but not in same league as the Parada Spec 2's I have now.

I made the switch over to the dark side with F-1 225-45-17 on the OEM Lites ( which I had black chromed). This is a total change. Call alex at tirerack for good advice and order the Continental compressor kit for about 75 bucks or some other standby, You won;t regret it. If you do I will sell you my runflats
Cheers! and Happy New year!!!

Is there a search function on MINI2?

Short answer = Conventional tyres good. Runflats bad.

You can now get the 2nd Generation of Runflats that are being fitted as Standard to the New MINI.
See >> http://www.mini2.com/forum/wheels-ty...flats-r53.html
They still wont be as Good as the best Regular Sports Tyres, but their main point is that they will let you carry on driving after a 100mph blowout ... as happened to me
