Offline | This has proably been done before......but i cant find the answer i need! im looking at changing over to toyo proxies and a can of slime. IF i use the slime, will that end the life of the tyre? or can it be cleaned out and fixed? like a normal tyre? I really dont want to go for the run flats but i also dont like the thought of having no way to get home! has anyone ever used the AA for a flat? do they do road side fixes? or do they get a bit funny if you havent got a spair...... Any advice would be great. cheers neil |

| Back To My Old Self | Calm down dear, you'll burst a blood vessel ![]() As far as I know the tyre will be ruined once you've used the slime. Hasn't happened to me yet, touch wood. As for the AA, have never tried that either. But being as it is not a legal requirement to carry a spare they should be alright. Now deep breaths, count to 10 ![]() |

Offline | The gook does not usually wreck the tyre once used. It cost a few quid more when you get it to a shop for repair because they have more cleaning to do etc. Not sure on the AA front, but I doubt it being as though all Cooper S cars don't have spares so your no different to someone with a RF tyre. |

Offline | I had non run flats on my old cooper with aftermarket 18” wheels. Had to run it around with a can of tyre foam in the boot and pray nothing happened. But I then consulted my friendly RAC man and he informed me as I’m a member I get free road side tyre replacement, and if they have not got the tyres you need there and then (which they wouldn’t being slim line 18”) they will take you, or get them from the nearest place that does. So I would check with the AA see what their policy is? Hope this helps |

Offline | I think the general consensus is that it is better to put new tyres on the rear. The reason being that they will offer more grip and it is 'safer' to have understeer (with the fronts losing grip before the rears) than oversteer ![]() |

Offline | Luckily I never had to call them out so not sure if they put their cut on the price? Spose they do like everyone these days, would suggest ya check with the AA though. Regarding the front or back it depends which is cheaper, as the front wears quicker (especially Toyo’s from personal experience). I would suggest getting proxies all round as when I changed to normal tyres the ride was smoother and they offered a lot more grip. Not sure but wouldn’t the normal tyre look more slim line compared with the thicker walled run flats? Or am I talking rubbish? I went for Kumho run flats on my s as they look less bulky than others and offer better grip. |
