Unhappy Eagle F1's??

Hi

Just got back from Kwik Fit, I went down because my tyre tread was low and I was thinking of upgrading my run flats to Eagle F1's. I have standard 17inch S spokes on a Cooper S. From reading other threads I believe this is a pretty common mod?

I was told that the wheels are specifically designed for run-flats and it may comprimise safety to make the change. They were not willing to do it as if something did happen it may come back to them.

Has anyone actually had any problems running non run flats on standard S-spokes or had problems getting them fitted.

Thanks in advance
Martyn

A bit of a#*e-covering, but very common with the "chain" tyre retailers - loads of people on here have swapped to non-runflats with no problems (& I intend to later this year as well).

Probably need to find a more helpful, smaller tyre fitter .

Try Etyres or black circles.

You will need to explain to them that you know what you are doing and they should be alright.

The guys at etyres seem to know about us on MINI2 so they were very helpful other than the fact that they could not supply the tyres I wanted and ended up going to black circles instead - good pice 178 for 2 x Dunlop 900-0 Sport

I was in a similar situation... i reckon the dunlop sp sport maxx are better... and they're made in japan. the eagle f1s are from thailand (not that there's anything wrong with that...!) they are both similarly priced

long live the supercharger

It is just them covering their backs, thats all

I had my Eagle F1's fitted by Kwikfit Skipton, they asked the same thing to start with then I explained to them that the rims were also suitable for non-runflat tyres and they went ahead and did it for £100 a wheel

Thanks for your responses guys, just another quick question. Are there any insurance implications when changing? ie, have insurance companies got out of paying up when non-runflats have been on the car when its in an accident?

My insurance company was not bothered about them being non-runflatts but they did charge for them being wide 205 to 215. i would ask then before & get it in writing as I was told no charge until i tlod them i had done i,t then iwas told there would be a charge.
