Unhappy Dunlop Runflats Cracked

I got a puncture the other day so brand new runflat...

Anyway, my local Tyre place who are really good changed the tyre, and took it off amazed - as all of the tread has cracks in it!!!!

After checking the other tyres, 2 of the remaining 3 had cracks in them...

I only picked my 05 MCS Convertible up 2 weeks ago, and it seems that Mini let it leave the garage with cracked tyres - which the Tyre place say they should not have done!!

There is over half of the tread left on the tyres, so it's a strange one!

Has anyone else had cracks appear in their Dunlop Runflats?

I've rang them, and after a difference in opinion, they have said for me to take the car in next week...

the fact is, they have sold me a "cherished" mini with defect tyres...

Thumbs up

i know that it seems there's not much interest on this thread (which i'm glad about as it must mean no one else has this issue with their runflats) but i've got an update

finally (after 6, nearly 7 weeks) i have had the phone call to go into BMW and have 3 brand new runflats fitted to my mini!!

it took a stern email to get through to them that i wasn't going to leave it! i copied in my sales guy, the mini garage's manager, williams manager, mini customer services, haha basically everyone who's anyone...

and i got a call from the tyre guy yesterday enquiring.

so i'm not totally happy as i still had to pay for a new tyre, but it had a puncture anyway, so i will now end up with 4 brand new tyres, and one that isn't cracked as a spare!

just thought i would update this thread, as if anyone else has a similar issue, my advice is to email, and don't give in!!

To be honest with you I think your wasting your money buying another 3 new tyres. All my Dunlop runflats have the cracks you talk about. I've got 2 tyres that were originally on the car when I bought it that show cracks and the other 2 were bought after 1 year of owning the car. After 6 months the new ones also show cracks! I'm not saying they are safe or unsafe but if you go looking at the used MINIs at your dealer you'll see A LOT of them show this also!

Just use them until they are worn down to the point of needing replacing and hope by that time Dunlop create some wonderful new runflat!

noo... i think you've misunderstood... the new tyres haven't cost me anything, so i now have 4 brand new runflats on, which is a lot better than having the worn and cracked ones on

Think this problem has been discussed some time ago.

My Pirelli run flats have shown cracking of the tread since new, July 03 S. Still have the original tyres on he car as it's only done 6k. The cracking seems to be on the tread itself rather than between the tread and doesn't seem to cause any problems. I noticed the cracking after about a week of owning the car so after 3 years they are still inflated anyways
