Offline | Tyre/steering frustration We've had numerous problems with our mini in terms of having about 4 punctures in about half a year (beginning 2006) and the outcome was new tyres on the front. Then having the steering juddering and misaligned (Nov 2006) and then having to have new tyres again on the front, possibly after 7,000 miles. I read on the forum that that kind of mileage on runflats wasnt that uncommon but get this... After less than 2000 miles our mini's front tyres are bald (and I mean bald) on the outside of the front tyres. We are busy people and its been a while since I looked properly at the tyre tread (naughty I know) but nearly skidded and crashed several time the other day (and I no longer drive like a boy racer at 32 years I drive more like my granny!!). All last year through the numerous visits to the mini garage for them to have a look at our tyres/wheels/steering we expressed our concern and said we think there is something more significant wrong with the car andit was shrugged off. Before I get very cross with the Mini garage again - does anyone else think this is all abit unusual? Never been a internet forum geek but if it means I can get advice from some mini owners before I go round the bend and eventually decide to cease to be a mini owner maybe it might be worth it!! Can anyone help??? ![]() |

Offline | Hi, Rachel , to have the runflats go bald on the outside first is unusual for road only use. Excessive toe in of the front wheels could cause this. I would advise you get a local tyre centre to check this and for anything else unusual such as a worn steering or suspension balljoint first. Best Regards Roland GT Geeking ![]() |

Offline | Update Thanks people for your quick responses - new update on our poorly mini... The tyre is now flat with no run flat indicator warning. We had to get the AA to come out and re-inflate so that we could drive it safely to the garage. That is where is now is ready for inspection tomorrow. Thank god on the phone the mini garage said they realised this is more of a fundamental problem rather than superficial. What with this being about the 5th time in a year that we have had a flat tyre and also that our tyres are bald after less than 2000 miles. Hope they do a thorough check now!!!! |
