DIY Pad sizes - general query

You would think that the same disc/caliper design (and size) used on different cars would
have the same size pads on but it appears not. Why would one car have narrower (radius
of the disc) and longer (circumference of the disc) pads than another car which has wider
and shorter pads. What is the advantage of a longer pad and what would be the advantage
of a wider pad .

Some people are like a Slinky ........ not really good for anything, but you still can't help
but smile when you shove them down the stairs
