Can I swap from run flat to non run flats on a cooper s

Hi guys my first post so be gentle with me .
I have just purchased my first mini a 2003 52 plate cooper s fitted with 17 inch rims and run flat tyres. One of my rear tyres has a slow puncture and needs inflating every few days.
Can anyone let me know can run flats be repaired, can I change run flats for non run flats if so do they all have to be 1 or the other. What are the benefits of either t yre and can anyone reccomend where to get the tyres.

Thanks for any help.

Cheers

Hiya

One of the first thing I did with my 04 MCS was change the Run Flats to Normal Tyres.

I actually ended up buying new wheel / tyres as a set, due to some of the fact that noone likes to touch Run Flats with a bargepole (Or at least that was my experience then - it may have changed then)

As to what - I cannot remember what I had - they are sitting on car in Wollastons forecourt now - as I picked up R56 last week

Hello, there's a lot of information in the http://www.mini2.com/forum/faq.php FAQ section on wheels, tyres, runflats, repairs and options for replacements.

This thread was also moved into the wheels and tyres forum for you, to get better, more accurate replies.

Welcome to MINI2.

I have a new shape cooper S - I am shocked by how bad run flats are, it is blighting my enjoyment of the bar - it feels dead with way too much torque steer.
Thankfully the they need changing soon - I won't be putting them back on. Anyone here done the same and can recomend some decent tyres for the car??

I'd change run flats as fast as I could if I had them...

I've just made the swap to non run flats on 17" S-lites.

The tyres i chose were 215/40/17 Falken ZE512. (So far so good!)

Tyres at mytyres.co.uk: car tyres, 4x4 tyres and van tyres at low prices is a good start. You can enter your required size and it will list the available tyres. Once you have chosen a tyre, enter your postcode and it provides a list of fitters in your area.

Might be worth giving them a ring first to see if they're ok with taking run flats off though. I do not recommend using Wilco Motosave. I think they used a hammer and chisel to get my tyres off with the mess they made of my alloys. Anyway, that's another story.

The main advantage of non run flats for me is the cost. It cost me £260 for 4, opposed to over £700 for a set of run flats. The obvious benefits of run flats are safety and convenience if you happen to get a puncture. There's a good few threads on here discussing the pros and cons so have a browse.
