Spare Wheel Help

I have now fitted 18" alloys to my car with non-runflat tyres. I carry 2 tyreweld cans with me just incase of a flat. But recently ive been thinking "what happens if the puncture is so bad that tyreweld wont work??" From what my MINI dealer told me, MINI assist would not come out as i wouldnt have a spare for them to put on the car and its my fault as i changed the tyres from runflats to non-runflats. For this reason i was thinking about buying a spare tyre and just keeping it at home so that in the worst case scenario if i did get a really bad flat my dad would come out and bring the spare to me...but then i thought its no use just buying a spare tyre as i would need a spare wheel aswell would i not as i doubt MINI assist would have the right tools to fit a new tyre onto the existing alloy wheel rim. I hope you are all managing to follow this thread,
All i basically want to know is, is buying a new spare tyre any use at all or would i need to buy a spare wheel with it aswell?? My current tyre size is 215/35/18 and the wheel size is 18 inch 7.5 width.
Any help much appreciated.
Cheers
Rob

I would just take the risk and go with carrying your Tyre gels, when MINI assist tend to your vehicle, they usually send out someone local to yourself, i.e. local recover who will tow you to where you want to go, and then the recover will bill MINI assist.

I was in a similar situation, bought a set of Dare 18" alloys & carried the Tyreweld around hoping I wouldn't really have to use it , especially if I was miles away from home.

Luckily a fellow member on MINI2 had 1 spare Dare wheel & tyre for sale at a very good price (thanks Karl ), bought that & keep it in the car all the time for absolute piece of mind, I don't take rear seat passengers in the car (Mrs Hartge's car is bigger anyway) plus my rear windows are tinted so no one can see all the stuff in the boot, it obviously takes up a fair amount of space but I have quite a bit of work gear in the back anyway so it's not a problem.

Main point for me is no more worrying about punctures.

You could also carry a space-saver spare with you.

Sounds like a strange thing for them to say, especially as they sell some cars that have neither runflats or a spare.

My car has standard R15 alloys on it, but I don't have a spare wheel/tyre. Instead, I just have the Mini Mobility Kit (I'm guessing the same as Tyreweld?). I ran over a very large bolt one night and it absolutely shredded the front left tyre. Seriously huge gaping holes. The little filler/plug stuff was completely useless as it would have just fell straight out again. I called MINI Assist and they came out to get me. I was towed to a dealership where the car was left (as it was quite late at night), and then they dropped me back off at home. Next morning, I got a taxi back to the dealer to pick up the car and pay for my new tyre.

Only bad part was waiting nearly 2 hours for MINI Assist to show up in the first place. One they finally did arrive, the service was very good.

I can't figure out why they would have objections to you not using runflats and not carrying a spare. Unless there's been a drastic policy change (if anyone knows of one, do tell), that just doesn't seem right.

Cheers,
Andrew.
