Dunlop Sport 01 v's Dunlop SP 9000 DSST Runflats

Hi everyone,

On my R56 S I have a set of Dunlop Sport 01 DSST runflats 205/45/R17 84V, recently got a puncture and have been shopping around for a replacement tyre. Apparently Dunlop has very little stock of this tyre but have been offered a Dunlop SP 9000 DSST runflat 205/45/R17 84V will that be suitable enough for me to put on the car????

Regards

Paul

You should always have the same tyres on the same axle. To replace one punctured tyre for a different one isn't ideal or recommended. You're going to need to find someone who has this tyre. They might have to be ordered in. It was the same story when MINI first had run flats. No where kept them in stock as there was little call for them.

It was acceptable in the 80's

This morning I was unfortunate enough to run over something on the motorway that punctured my Dunlop SP SPORT 3000A DSST (Front passenger side). Couldnt find anyone at all that has this in stock. The standard tyre version (think its just the 3000) I could get, but the 3000A DSST seems to be obselete. So... went for the Dumlop Sport 01, and in turn, replaced a rear tyre that was only just on the legal limit with an 01. Shifted the wheels about so that I now have the brand new tyres on the front (so both the same tyres too) and I have to say, I am impressed with the 01's. They feel so much grippier than the 3000a's and it might just be me but they just seem to generally ride better! Although I have only done around 20miles in them so far so time will tell

Thanks for that but I have tried everywhere but no luck I have gone for the 9000 as they are the nearest I can get hold of. Dunlop are having problem supplying them for at least a few weeks I found out whoever has stock has stock but no one near me.

IIRC the 9000's are 1st Gen runflats and much stiffer sidewalls. The 01's are 2nd gen and are a huge contributor to the improved ride on the R56.

I am sure they will help but only play a small part in the improved ride quality.

My 02 ONE had standard suspension and 15" normal tyres, the ride in that car was way worse than my R56 on 16" runflats.

Well I cancelled my order with etyres and made them chase up a Dunlop Sport 01 and they made a special order through Dunlop direct and will fit it for me on Saturday. I', lucky to still have my R53 S to drive around until it gets sorted. I think a spare set of crown spokes with Dunlop runflats are in order

You'll find once the car has been around longer and tyres are being replaced more frequently they'll be a lot easier to get hold off. In the meantime you'll just have to try and avoid all road debris.
