Question Cheapest decent brake kit

I am looking to upgrade my brake kits in the next few months but I cannot afford JCW. What are the other cheaper options that aren't rubbish.

If anyone has had problems with kits mentioned in this thread or on the flip side has found them amazing then let me know.

Cheers y'all

Hmm, better pads, braided lines and better brake fluid might be a good option for a budget???

Yeh someone else mentioned taht to me as well - you can use stock discs, or upgrade to something only slightly better, but then go for something like MINTEX EXTREME brake pads which make a real difference...

what difference do braided hoses make? (sorry don't know much about this)

Braided hoses are "braided" with stainless steel.

When you brake, there is a lot of pressure on those pipes, and they expand, resulting in a slightly "soft" or "quidgy" brake feel. Braided hoses combat this by being, quite literally, wrapped in steel. So they improve brake response and feel.

Although I believe Roland from GT Tuning has said that the braided hoses on a MINI make no difference.

It was acceptable in the 80's

Not tried them back to back to comment, but they must make SOME difference, it could just be negligible, so you don't feel the advantage.

cool - thanks for clarification.

SOmeone mentioned to me that the biggest difference would come from upgrading the brake pads to something like Mintex Extreme etc. I only use the car for road use, not show/track days etc so I think something a little more tame might suit me!

Anyone know how hard it is to paint callipers? Was thinking of painting mine yellow (as red seems to be done to death now!)...either that or get brembo replacements!

thanks for the pad/hose/fluid idea... I had not thought of that.

How does that compare price wise then?
