DIY Tyre Pressure

Hi I have the 17" bullets with Pirelli runflats on the front and the standard tyres on the back, 205/45/r17

what do you all do for tyre pressure, as I seem to go through tyres a bit quick and bet its because of tyre pressure,

the little plate on the door says about 35psi front and rear, I never known a car to have the same front and rear, but then the cooper s is very balanced.

What do you all put in yours, ideally people with the 17" alloys?

The performance of the MINI may be balanced but the car is not. It carries 61% of it's weight on the front wheels and only 39% on the rear. I carry about 4 - 5 psi more pressure on the fronts than the rears to help maintain even tread wear.

To determine this I purchased a tread depth gauge and measure 3 places across the width of the tread, once on each shoulder and once in the middle. If there is less tread in the middle I decrease the pressure a pound or so. If the tread is deeper in the middle then I increase the pressure a pound or so. I try to check every 1,500 - 2,000 miles. As little as 1/64"(.4mm) is detectable with a tread depth gauge.

Mixing brands of tyres on a vehicle can be risky as different manufacturers tires can handle very differently and make your MINI behave in unexpected ways when pushed to extremes.

Motor on, Dudes and Dudettes!!!

I appreciate that, and I never normally would, I am changeing the rear Dunlops for Perelli when they go, sure it wont be long now as i seem to go through tyres petrol and miles like there going out of fashion.

In answer to your question ... 38-40psi all round.

And, yes, coventional tyres on one axle, and runflats on the other is a recipe for disaster!

Put the RFs on the back and do a few hand brakies before you buy some new tyres...

I found that Pirelli tyres did not last as long as Bridgestone or Dunlop...........I currently have Dunlop for street and Bridgestone for track.....
