After market alloy - HELP!

Hi

Could someone please clarify something for me?

I'm looking to replace some rather badly kerbed 17" bullets on my '55' mcs and had thought about a set of Fox R4's. I had thought I could change my existing Dunlop SP9000 run flats onto the new alloys but have been told that for run flats to work they need a special rim (something about an inner wall) other wise they won't be supported in the event of a puncture. The guy said he was sorry for both me and him as he'd lost a sale!

However having read on the net about run flats I see that they 'do not' need any special rims.

Which one don't know what they're talking about?

Cheers

The MINI rims are a different design to most and TBH there is a chance that the RFs do need this lip. I know for defo that anyone saying that a non runflat tyre cant be fitted to a mINI alloy is talking BOLX but saying an RF can't go on a normal alloy might actually be true...hope its not mate. Everyone i know on aftermarket alloys does not run the BMW RFs so I can't say.

There are members running run flat tires on aftermarket wheels ...

Advanced search: Members
MINI Wheel Type: Aftermarket
MINI Tire Type: Run Flat
MINI OEM wheels DO NOT have a sensor to monitor tire pressure as the MINI's TPMS uses the ABS brake sensors to do this.

MINI OEM wheels DO have either EH2 or EH2+ hump profiles, which reduce the risk of the tire bead unseating in case of loss of pressure.

Before running run flat tires on aftermarket wheels, I would find out the hump profile of the wheel and then contact the tire manufacturer to see if the tire was safe to run with this particular hump profile.
