URGENT - Wheel Fitting Question (2014hrs 10/07)

Please can someone offer some urgent advice (I'm trying to fit wheels on tonight).

I have had some aftermarket wheels delivered which appear to have the correct PCD (4 studs with the correct diameter) but the hole in the alloy into which the hub is inserted is larger than the hub if that makes sense?

So, think of the hub as the male and the alloy as the female, the female is larger (quite significantly) than the male so the alloy simply moves around.

Obviously the alloy could be bolted to the hub but then all the weight and pressure would be on the bolts and not shared by the 'male'.

Can anyone advise what has happened and how to explain this to the vendor to get this sorted? Are these for a different car make/model?

I really need to get onto them asap so a quick response would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

What wheels are they and where from?

The answer is you need a set of spiggot rings, hubcentric rings, fitting rings...they have numerous names that folks use. These push into the hub on the wheel and reduce the generic size of that hub down to the hub of the specific car your fitting the rim to. The MINI is a 56.1mm hub.

Eg. The hub on the rim is possibly as large as 73.1mm and your spiggot needs to be 73.1 on the outside and reduce to a centre hole of 56.1 so it fits snuggly on the MINI hub.

They are usually plastic but some are made of metal (rare) like on some TSW wheels. If you fit without them you will get terrible wheel wobble through steering and risk sheering the bolts through.

You can buy off ebay as an actual thing but you need the size of the hub on your wheel and the MINI size so you can get a set of 4 with the correct reduction.#

Speak to the wheel supplier as they normal ask what type of car the rim is to fit to ensure they send you the correct fitting kit (bolts and spiggot rings) to fit that rim to your specific make of car. When I got my TD Pro Race rims from demontweeks they sent the fitting kit seperate so the rims arrived first and i could not fit till the rings arrived a day or 2 later.

Good luck

Fantastic, thank you so much for the response!

I have purchased Inovit Tarmac 18s in Hyper Silver from www. alloywheels. com. Really impressed with the service thus far, and as soon as I mentioned it today he said he would send some out.

However, not great that they weren't sent out automatically given that I told him what car the alloys were to be fitted to.

Wheels are here (thought they look a bit rubbish on the photo mock up):

Itching to get them on now!

Thanks again.
