Australia rubber/foam bit under the car

Hi All,

I don't know if this has been posted before - I didn't even know what to search for. Anyway, i've noticed that there are 2 rubber/foam looking bits under the car on either side (just under the doors). Does anybody know what these are for? I saw a BMW 130i the other day with the exact same thing.
