I had to have my pads and discs replaced on my '52 reg MCS after 28K miles. Wasn't covered by the warranty. I guess MINI must just use very 'weak' discs.

not sure about what warranty says but my experience has been a 1 to 1 ratio with the necessity to replace rotors at each pad change. I have asked others and they concur.

Yup, standard discs and pads wear about the same rate, lots of people just change pads only to find out the discs are below limits well before the new pads are worn , then they have to get new pads again with new discs -No saving there!
The Zimmerman discs are a harder steel and you can get 2 sets of pads to 1 disc
The Apex discs are cheap and sometimes do not fit ,wear about the same as stock

Regardless brake discs and pads unlikely to be a warranty item, much like tyres, wipers, clutch and other wear items

Hi, yes they do wear & they're correct (usually) in suggesting new discs aswell as pads.Check out the GTT Spiroslot discs+pads+fluid kits on our website ..£129+vat front or £119+vat rear. Also there here are some new GTT Big Brake kits coming in this week at a very keen price.....will put up a thread later .
Best Regards Roland .GTT

The MCS and MC burn discs and pads at a prodigious rate. Consider yourself lucky to get 2 years or 25k out of them. Mine did 15 at tops! LOL

They are wearable part...if disc is just worn and not cracked etc then its wear and tear and not covered. I'd say to BMW that you don't want them to touch it and you will do it...it will still be covered if the parts you buy are BMW. Takes 20-30 mins for dics and pads on the front and a bit longer and special tool on the rear.

BMW will charge about 450 for all 4. You can get it elsewhere including better fluid and discs/pads for a lot less!

The front brakes wear faster because as you brake the weight moves forward so the front brakes do far more work than the rear.
Despite being advised that you need new front discs, you have had only the pads done!!!!!
getting new pads fitted at no cost later ,could cost you more than you can imagine
Running discs below minimum thickness ,make the car un roadworthy ,and dangerous ,brakes are not an option ,you now have no insurance either
Lifetime guarantee.....who's life?

I can't believe any one would take such a big gamble with safety for the sake of a new set of front brakes and £200.

My dealer advised in June that my front brakes were shot (pads shot, discs borderline). I took mine to MiniMania for the Zimmerman Discs and EBC pads! Having seen the parts removed, I got them changed just in time - and these had covered only 18k miles!! Top service though from Adam at MiniMania, and the new brakes are much better than the standard items!
