Online | 17" Bullets why Dunlop not Pirelli from factory? Hi all, Looking at buying some Bullets for my S as they're my favourite factory wheels. Have a set in mind that are without tyres so my near new Pirelli's will be take off my S Spokes - S Spokes will be used later for winter tyres if my planned move to Germany happens. Just curious however as to why S Spokes come with Pirelli rubber from the factory and Bullets come with Dunlop? Cheers, Geoff. |

| Amiga 500 to PS3 20 Years | BMW and MINI flit between Pirelli and Dunlop tyres. It's a very clever practice employed by a lot of companies. They have two (or more) official tyre suppliers and play one off against the other. Thus ensuring they have the very best price possible. It also means that should a fault be found in a batch of tyres that not every car is affected. All that happens is BMW say "We want 20,000 x size tyres that are run flat" to both Dunlop and Pirelli and make them aware that each manufacturer is not the only one being asked for the contract. Both come back with their best price and BMW take the cheapest. They may even choose to play one off against the other, to bring the price lower, if they feel they're paying too much. Even Rover Mini's used to flit between Dunlop and Pirelli. Again Dunlop were the superior tyre but unfortunately towards the end of it's life Dunlop stopped making them and Pirelli's were the only standard tyre you could get. ![]() It was acceptable in the 80's |
