Will 1st gen wheels fit 2nd gen?

Not sure if this is the right forum.

I've managed to acquire a nearly new 1st Gen 15" steel wheel/tyre from a MINI dealer. I assume it's off a MINI One being upgraded to alloys.

I intend to have it as a full size spare at home, might even lug it around on the odd trip (yes, I know it won't easily fit in the boot!).

And although I told the guy in the tyre bay my intended use I have some doubts. Therefore the thing is, will it fit on my R56 (I have the standard issue 15" alloys)? I've heard that the hole diameters differ from 1st to 2nd Gen, and there may be issues about clearing brake calipers.

It was only 20 quid (a bargain I thought, seeing as it was from a main Bee Em dealer), so not much lost if it won't work!

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

You're saying the bolts are larger diam on the R56?

If so, won't the threads get damaged trying to squeeze the holes of the 1st Gen wheel over them?

Some wheels will fit. Some won't. Generally '04 and newer MINI wheels work.

I have some S-Lites from an '04 set up with winter tires in the garage.

If the lug-bolt goes through the wheel's bolt holes, you're good-to-go. If not, it won't.

I bought a set of track wheels for my R56 from a guy who had them on a R53 'S'.
I found that the holes were to small for the bolts to go through. Had to buy a 14mm drill bit to increase the hole by about 1.5mm. Now all is perfect!

All OEM wheels have bolt holes large enough to accommodate either M12 or M14 wheel bolts.

Only R56 MCS owners need be concerned about fitting 1st Gen wheels. Since the front brake discs are the same size as those in the 1st Gen JCW Brake Kit, you can only fit 17", 18" and 16" R87 and R94 wheels.

Thanks everyone.

So consensus seems to be -

a recent 15" steel wheel/tyre off a 1st Gen MINI One will fit OK as a spare for my 15" alloy equipped R56 Cooper (not an 'S')?

If not correct, please keep the advice coming!

Cheers

I put my old Dare X4's back on my R56, the bolts had to be changed to longer and thinner ones, but if you go to any Alloy wheel shop they will order them for you with the right Diameter.

I forget the Dimenstions of the bolts I got, but Unicar should have the information.

Been out messing tonight and was considering putting my old wheels on the Clubman and discovered the smaller wheel nuts, damn etc.
I am not sure I will put them on though as a test fit looks like they will rub like mad so am thinking maybe a set of black 15" alloys... or would 16" x lites fit on my R55?

I'm in a similar situation, I've bought some 16 inch r83 5 star alloys which i assume are from a r53 mini, and i plan to fit them to my r56 cooper d, which currently has 15 inch alloys. Should they fit OK and should i use the wheel nuts from my r56?
