Run flat / White alloy issue

I have 17 inch painted white alloys on my Mini Cooper.

My front left tire (a pirelli runflat) constantly looses pressure over a week (couple of psi a day). I went to my local tire dealer and they told me there is a known issue with runflats and the white alloy - something about the rim leaking/not sealing properly. He told be to take it to a bodyshop to get the wheel relaquered?

Is this true or are they making this stuff up?

I really need to solve this issues, ive replaced the tire once already and cant afford to buy another one when there doesnt seem to be any actual puncture damage to the tire itself.

Thanks

That seems weird??? I used to have some white 16" X-lites, they were delivered with my car from factory, I had replacement 17s ready to go, but I still used my old X-lites as track wheels. At no stage did I ever have problems with the tyres losing pressure.

My guess would be there's a small problem with the valve stem, try another tyre outlet and ask them to replace the valve and see how you go.

I've too have runflats on my MC, it's my first experience of runflats so am no expert.

what I did notice is that on previous cars I always checked the tyre pressures once a week and never really seen any significant change.

on the MC for some reason I thought as it has the pressure monitor I did not need to check them as regular........................................... ...mistake

yesterday I checked them to find they were all 24psi and I like to run at 30psi

I have 17" flame alloys and they must lose pressure more than normal tyres.

based on this your tyre dealer could be correct as the wheel must play a part in retaing the pressure ?

why not swop the tyres around so that you have a different tyre on the suspect wheel to prove if it's the wheel at fault ?

I will now check my pressures on a more regulau basis, what pressure do you run at ?

Never heard anything like that, and never had a problem with white alloys since 2002. Why would white be any different to silver anyway?!

Sounds a bit odd to me too

I would take it to a different tyre dealer and get another opinion

I also have this problem and was given the exact same story as you've ben told!

Although I now have non-run flats on the front and the driver side is even worse - I'm pumping up my tyre every day at the moment and I've been back to get the tyre re-fitted 5 times now.....................using 2 x different fitters I may add!

all to do with the seal around the bead of the tire, go to small independent dealer, kerbing sometimes takes lacquer off then seal leaks.
take tire off, sand/light grind rim, put sealer on ,then replace tire.

Its not just white wheels. I had the same problem on my silver S Spokes with the runflat loosing pressure slowly and the Mrs had the same white her white S Spokes.

The tyre needs to be re-sealed onto the rim and the problem should go away. Nothing to do with paint and laquer. Both mine and the Mrs wheels were in new condition.

Quick update, been over 24 hours and 70 miles driving and no problems!

Car is handling as well as it has done in nearly 3 months.

Thanks again to all who gave me advice!
