205/40/18....what tyres are available..?

Hi, I'm at the stage of needing new tyres soon. I'm currently running 205/40/18 Dunlop runflats, which i want to change from to a non runflat type.

I have before run on 215/35/18, but don't like the low profile of the 35. So i'm looking for non-runflats in 205/40/18. I've had a quick look around and not found much, apart from Toyo proxes 4 and Michelin pilot sport 2. Does anyone no of any other brands that are available..? or have any recommendations for me...?

Thanks
Chris

i had this problem the other day looking for 2 new tyres.

I had the dunlop run flats on that you have now, and changed to the toyo proxys px4, and the change in weight on the car changed dramitically.

Car is now alot smoother on the road and alot quieter. Only got them fitted yesterday aswell.
Any questions just ask.

Now i'm thinking *** it..going to try the new bridgestone runflat, as not liking any of the alternatives. Have read a few reports that they are a major improvement. Just need to find a decent price....

At the same stage, just took my 18's off for winter months, and was looking what to put on them come the spring, the dunlops are shot, and since putting my S spokes back on with yokohama non runflats grip is in a different time zone.

I cant really go for 215/40/18 either as it may give me rubbing issues with coilover, and I dont fancy 5mm spacers on with the 18's. will have the arch worn away in no time. Anyone any advice on tyres for a lowered mini on 18's? Who's getting away with 215/40/18.

Well I've gone down the same route as 'Andy P' and got my self some Michelin PS2....just gota wait until tomorrow for fitting. Managed to get a decent price in the end, and was having problems finding bridgestones anyway...there seems to be a back order for them...

Cool, let us know how you get on with them - I run mine at 32psi and that feels about right

Well got them fitted.... very pleased so far.....got a bit more road noise than i thought, but that maybe due to new tyres having loads more tread than my old ones. I guess they will be better once run in a bit more.

Apart from that not really tried them out much, as its lashing down with rain, so a bit slippy to start with.

Am also running 32psi at moment....i ran that on my last tyres and it was ok.

To clarify did you go for Michelin PS2 in 205/40/18?

It sucks there arent more tyres available for the 18 inch mini wheels. The Dunlops are just pure rubbish, I put my S spokes back on for winter which have A539 yokohamas on them, and omg the difference in traction, steering response and comfort is immense. Only problem is car sits slightly lower and it catches more.

So can somebody clarify is 215/40/18 a bad idea?

Where would it rub? The coilovers or the arch? Would some 5 mm spacers sort this out?

Normally post as Vitesse but can't remember my password, as I'm at home and it saved on my work PC.

But can recommend mytyres.co.UK. They ship them in from Germany. I ordered 2 x18" Dunlop runflats late on a Tuesday and they were delivered on the Friday. When I rang them on the Friday to check which day they were going to be delivered, you have to enter your order number into the phone and soon as they answer they know exactly where they are. Unfortunately I wasn't there on the Friday, so they turned up on the Monday. They are very efficient!
