| Banned | vibrating steering wheel at 60 + Hi everyone. I fitted my bbk last night. This morning i took it out on the motorway and noticed when braking slightly the steering wheel shakes up and down. also the brake pedal has more travel than it used to before the car starts braking. Any ideas? Only seems to happen when braking from speeds of 50 mph upwards. |

| MINI2 Senior | Agree, but also check they are no over tight; I believe they should be 120Nm. I've also noticed that the MINI is very sensitive to slight wheel imbalances so it maybe worth getting that checked. GTT, GRS, Janspeed, JCW, OMP + various other bits - 232.6bhp, 191.2lbft on 1320's rolling road |

Offline | Does the brake pedal also feel like it's 'pulsing' under your foot when you apply pressure ? Could be warped discs - they will transmit vibration back through the steering also. |

| Banned | Nothing through the pedal when braking. I also noticed that when i press the brakes harder the vibrations go away. Im going to check for any high spots on the hub, tighten the wheelbolts up and balance them if they are out. If this fails i will get the discs looked at. |

Offline | Brake pedal distance will increase because you have more pots on your calipers, hence need to supply a bigger volume of brake fluid to apply braking. Certainly sounds like something is off balance. Did you make sure that all mating surfaces were clean and free from high spots. If not the disc or caliper could be slightly off square. You should check for run-out visually by rotating the disc and observing if it appears to move relative to the caliper and pad. If you have one, you could use a dial gauge on the disc. Check if there is any apparent difference in movement between the LH and RH sides. ![]() |

Offline | What he said ^^^ Doesnt sound like wheels but more discs not being sat dead straight. I wonder if when you brake harder the pistons are following the profile of the discs..... |

| Banned | My mate works for mercedes. So hes going to get it on the ramps there and check for any highspots on the hub or discs. He has some sort of digital thing that checks for highspots on discs. Not sure what its called. Its going in on saturday so hopefully will find the problem. Going to balance my wheels and do tracking aswell. |

| Banned | Had my car on the ramps today. Ive balanced the wheels as they were out and bled the brakes again. The steering wheel still shakes slightly under light braking at high speeds. Im going to check for flat spots where the disc sits. The brake pedal has far less travel now for braking which feels much better. ![]() |

| Banned | I thought mine were warped but the guy who i got them off had the same problem and had the discs checked and they were ok. Im going to check for high spots where the disc sits on the hub and file it. I dont get anything through the pedal when i brake so im not sure if they are warped. When dics are warped you get the steering wheel shake and the pedal. Let me know what happens with yours. Good luck. Should be getting the new t map sensor on tuesday so hopefully will stop all eml lights coming on. If not ill have to get a diagnostics check. Hopefully nothing serious. |
