I am trying to make sure that my Dunlop runflats all wear out at the same time. so that they can be replaced as a set. Consequently, I recently swapped my wheels front to rear at 14,500 miles. There's plenty of tread left on the tyres that are now on the rear, so I'm expecting the complete set to last until 29-30,000 miles.

As I'm also averaging 33-34mpg as well, I must be missing the point of owning an S

I'll check the tread depth this evening and post it up for you.

I'm usually taking it fairly easy, using the torque of the supercharged motor to pull higher gears, keeping the speed down to the legal limit on motorways / dual carriageways (70 & 60 mph) and just trying to drive as smoothly as possible. Okay, so I still let her rip occassionally ( ), but a long motorway journey can see her returning as much as 38 mpg

I think you'll probably get punctures before the tread runs out lol. I've had two since I got it in July this year.

Remember that a US Gallon is about 20% smaller than a "real" UK Gallon!

watch those inside edges peeps,
had loads of rubber on mine, given 5k more by tyre fitter [18k at time] after check quote for RF again
wanted to sell with s-spokes with rubber, so changed early to new wheels/rubber
found big damage to inside edges, visable wire etc [ after 12k rotation ] tyre ware indicators showed as ok across width, visable tread looking good as well

do check your tyres fully.

I recently biought a set of S-spokes off a user on here ( cheers mate bargain) and the tyres all had 6mm tread all round. however they had perished in the tread and had split to show canvas, so had i not checked the tyre fully i could have had a nasty blowout.

So always check the full tyre and never assume that just because you have a highe level of tread the tyre is ok.

Oh and my 18" dunlop run flats have'nt lasted as well as the pirelli runflats i had on my 17's

29k miles for the rear Dunlops (bald on inside edge, 6mm otherwise), 10-12k for the fronts (worn pretty much everywhere).

my standard runflats lasted me 30,000km's ( ~22k Miles rough guess) i replaced them with eagle f1's and OMG they made such a noticable differance handling wise, and inthe rain it is quite confidance inspiring, which could be a bad thing hahaha. and it has also made for a much easier ride, less noise and not as harsh on bad motorways, i dont really have a worry about flat tyres, for $50 i purchased a repair kit and an aircompressor.

datz cool...all im caring about is road noise....so eagle f1s are good for drastic change in ride comfort and noise?

My original dunlop sp01 runflats almost lasted one summer (17,000 km). All 4 were down to the wear bars ( I rotated the tires halfway through the season). 10 autocross events might have had something to due with their short life though.

I thought I might have a problem when I saw the rears on mine had worn on the inside edge but not so much on the outside edge but it sounds like this is common (up to 32k on the rears)

First set of S spokes with OEM run flat Dunlops were changed at 28,000 miles, but still had 3-4mm left, so I think I could have made 35,000-40,000 miles. I did rotate these every 5,000 or so though. Current set of Bullets with OEM Dunlops need doing (fronts) at 20,000, haven't rotated these though, otherwise I could have got close to 30,000 again.

Red Dwarf has left the room

I've found this to. Bought 4 DSST 17" off ebay looked like new, picked them up and a couple of days later I got a puncture. So got one of these tyres out of the garage to have fitted an noticed the tread was cracking in the tread depth corners, took to tyre dealer to get a second opinion and he said that the tyre was scrap (the other 3 were the same)!! Also when they had been removed by the person I bought them off the bead off the tire had slight tears in them and the tire dealer told me that they would prob never reseal on another set of rims. Got back in touch with guy I bought them from off ebay and got a full refund.

Regards

James
