Offline | good morning all my mcs is hurt and needs help thanks to the fantastic roads in the great state of new jersey not only have i destroyed a tire but bent the rim at the same time.... perfest time to upgrade. right now i am running standard s-lites in a 17x7 config with nitto 215/40/17 these tires are fantastic, problem is nitto has stopped making the nitto 450's in this size. since i need new rims anyway i want to know if i can get away with 17x8's and 235 40 instead. i would loveto go wider and this seems like it will work.. agian my mini is sick and i need to fix it so that i drive it the way it wants to be driver fast and fun thanks all ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Offline | Are nitto's a brand of tyre .I think you will have major rubbing issues , if you run this 17 x 8 wheel and 235/40 tyre combo .I think you would be better sticking with the 17 x 7 and using a 215/45 tyre. This would give you the same footprint on the road, but with a deeper side wall. Also take this opportunity to buy some lighter wheels as well, as the S-Lites as there called in the US are the heaviest wheel that MINI sell. Another option you could consider is downsizing to 16 x 7 wheels, with either 205/50 tyres, or 215/50 if you want to have the same width tyre you have now. Hope this helps . |

Online | One user with a 2nd Gem MCS has reported running 235/40-17 Sumitomo HTR+ tires on 17x7.5 Rota D2 wheels. I think 235 width tires are going to cause rubbing on a 1st Gen MINI. |

Offline | sadly im of the same opinion.... 10mm wider each side of the tyre will make rubbing very likely. Any chance of testing one?? Also wont the overall size be way too big?? Surely something like 225/40 would be a better size if you can even get that size tyres? |
