Angry I'm Confused now

I have just ordered a full set of 215/45-17 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 tyres to replace my runflats for a very reasonable £70 per tyre.

I've just been calling a few garages for quotes on getting them fitted and one guy said they wont fit my wheels because they are specifically made for run flats...not conventional tyres. Apparently they wont stay inflated on the rim and air will keep escaping. Is this true?

I have 17' S spokes by the way.

Also, if they do fit and this guy was chatting @%$* would it be worth doing the tracking also?

Lol what a load of crap! When they say that just tell them you will be going somewhere else as their level of knowledge of tyres is so poor.

Like many people on here I am too running normal road tyres on the S-Spokes with no problems and they even keep air in them better than the runflats.

Where did you get such a good deal on tyres from?

There is no difference in the wheels, only the tire wall is different. Run Flats are designed to mount on normal rims.

thats the same thing the mini sales guy told me! he said that they wouldn't fit! i think it maybe a case of that is waht has been passed to all these tyre places by bmw but it apparently isn't strictly true!

Let me rephrase what I said. Most common run flats, like the ones BMW use, do not require a special rim. There are, apparently, some tires out there that do require the rim but I don't think that they are mainstream.

Apparently the S Spoke rim has a thicker beading compared to a normal wheel. Thats why its made for RF tyres. The people at my trusted tyre fitters wouldn't put non RFs on due to if the tyre came low on pressure the bead of the non RF could move around on the S Spoke rim. I get what they are saying and if you look at the inner rim and compare with a non RF wheel you can see the bead seat is alot bigger on the S Spoke.

HOWEVER, i've been running on non RFS for 18k and not (touch wood) had a problem. Even with low pressure (16psi) in all the tyres did they become unstable.

Just make sure your GSD3 tyres are "Made in Germany" and have the "E" mark. I heard there were some 'cheaper' types around that were not rated to european standards and speed/weight ratings.

£70 sounds an acceptable price though, i got these for about £85 around 12 months ago

Am thinking of getting Toyo R888's next though (just for a change, and more for track abuse!!), but so far nothing has beaten the GSD3s for me.

Cheers,
K.

I used GSD's on my OEM bullets on the track and had no problems with them. They didnt even come off when I span the MINI, and I cant imagine when there would be more sideways force than that to try and push them off the rims.

So would I only need to get the tracking done if I was having steering problems?

Because at the moment my tyres are pretty much bould and since noticing this my steering wheel 'judders' all the time...could this be related? Or do I need the tracking done?

Through calling a few garages very few will fit tyres which havent been purchased through them selves as 'they cannot fit them due to the fact they dont know the tyres history, even though they are brand new!!' I guess if they dont want your business more fool them!!!
