United-Kingdom Kumho?

Ok already looking at swapping tyres and wheels as i'm not over keen on the runflats!

Found the alloys i want but tyres are what im really interested in! my budget isn't huge either!

Been to my local tyre shop that i know and trust and spent about half an hour discussing different options and we eventually agreed that a kumho would be the best with directionals at the front and asemetricals at the back based on a recent pirelli seminar the guy had attended! the tyres look like good tred patterns and the guy has used them himself on his merc at trackdays and was pleased and preferred them over toyo's and alike and said that although they are reasonably soft that they are no where near as soft as toyo's.

Has anyone else had experience of these or heard reviews form friends and alike?!

Also i have a 2003 mini cooper which i think is called the R50?? (sorry still new and can't get my head round all these R no.s!)

kumho

Hi,

I had Kumho Supra 712's on my BMW 320d (in a 225/40/18), and found that they were very good- nice progressive breakaway, and wore really well, I would recommend them... also heard good things about falkens- about the same money- alot of the guys on bmwland.co.uk use them on their M3's so must be decent!!

Adam

Isn't that going to prevent you from rotating your tires front to back?

What size and model of Kumho tire are your considering?

I've heard good things about some Kumho tyres but without knowing the model it's a bit of a gamble.

I went with Yokohama Parada Spec 2 which I defy you to think isn't the sexies tread pattern of any road tyre and which is quite cheap. They may be soft and wear, but to be honest at £50 a corner (fitted) I'll live with that.

I've never rotated tyres front to back in my life, in fact it's rare for me to have a car where they are the same width either end. It's no handicap not being able to rotate if it gets better tyre performance.

A good choice the Ecsta runflats do well against anything but the most expensive brands and even beat some of them. Snow Ice and severe wet are an issue, but as long as you adapt your driving to the conditions you'll find them better than average and great value.

Yes But to be honest i've never been one to do this as i always prefer to replace the front tyres and have fresh tred at the front (even though it is recommended to put it at the back due to the effects under intense braking!) and the guy at the garage has warned me of this but has said it is supposed to be the best practice if you want the best performance set up for your money!

It would be the ecsta spt ku31 (directionals) at the front and the ecsta ku19 (asemetrics) at the back! have read elsewhere about their ability in the snow etc but i should be ok jus be a bit more fun and challenging!

I had Khumo ECSTA Sports on my Skyline, and they were fine. Seemed to be better in the wet than the Toyos I had on previously. They didn't last too long, but then I think the large amount of horses going through the rear wheels and the odd track day were probably responsible for that

You shouldn't be running these tires in snow
