Wrong tyre size according to Mini?

Hi all, I would just like to ask if anyone could offer any advice on my new tyres. I had them installed on my Cooper a week ago, but the Mini garage where it went for a service today called me and asked if I knew I had the wrong size tyres on my wheels.

The wheels are the standard 15" rockets, and had 175 x 65's on that came on when new in Oct 2006. I had these replaced with 195 x 55's as I wanted to go up a size, and was not told if these tyres were not suitable for the rims by Kwickfit.

Does anyone know if these are OK, or do I need to do something before something happens at moterway speed? The tyres are Pirelli P6000 if that makes any difference.

Thanks all in advance.

the new tyres are 2.13% smaller diameter than standard or 13mm.

When your speedo reads 60mph you are actually doing 58.7mph.

The tyres are safe on the rim - they are not going to fall off or anything, MINI were just pointing out that you were running a non standard size and your speedo is slightly out.

Most authorities suggest keeping the size differential to less than 2.5% so you are fine

Thanks for that, I know the speed reading will be slightly different, but I tend to go off Tom Tom anyway. I was worried that the rims would not be large enough for the larger size, and that why mini were pointing it out.

I shall drive as normal then.
