Extreme tire noise Yokohama A048

Hi again everyone!

So, for those of you who read my post regarding the tire wear, you know I just changed tires yesterday and put some (what I thought) great Yokohama ADVAN A048 on my mini.

Here they are:

So far so good, they look great and the grip is incredible... And the fact that it's no runflat anymore makes the ride 20x better and smoother, even the steering feels lighter! I really recommend to dump the runflat tires imho...

Anyway, there IS one "small" problem... the noise! Those tires whine like hell, passengers and me are getting serious headaches! No joke! The noise is really really loud (rolling rubber, whine...), I even thought there might be fitted "wrong" or touching somewhere! But they are not, I checked everywhere, no sign of contact on the tire. I run them on original crown spoke 17' wheels, and the tires are 215/45. The car is not lowered yet, so just standard specs, thus should not touch anywhere in the arch.

So, has anyone else who have put some A048 on experienced this noise level difference? Or is it just me and my ears? Or is it normal and did you get used to it?

Thanx for the feedback and infos!

valent

The A048 & previous A036 Advans are semislicks & not designed for everyday use.
Like most semislicks they are designed for grip & everything else is an afterthought.
For the record i have had experience with both & found them to be extremely noisy too, they will also wear out very quickly if you are using them as 'everyday' tyres due to them being very soft.
I have always found it best to have 2 sets of wheels/tyres & always change to the semislicks when i get to the track.

You nutter!

These last about 3000miles on the back of my Exige. I would never dream of putting them on the mini! Yeah, they're loud alright.

Enjoy them while you can but beware in the wet!!!

HI,

I put my A048 on my Mini yesterday. Grip = TOP but they sounds like a jet turbine :-(
My solution for this problem - fixing a RC40 pipe! :-)
