19" on an R56

I have 18x8.5 wheels on my R56 Cooper and one has a flat spot so i need some new wheels. I'm thinking of going for some 19x8.5 possible 19x9.5...........does any one know if they will fit? Or will they scrape the arches when cornering? Its not lowered....so i dont think there should be much of a problem?

I am suprised your even getting away with 18x8.5 ... I was told last week when looking a new wheels that the biggest I could go would be 18x8, and preferebly 18x7.5 as for 19x8.5 or 9.5 I wouldnt like to be a passenger I highly doubt they will fit, and if they do you'll be scraping and rubbing everytime you as much as hit a stone

I dont think it will matter wheather or not your car is lowered, yes 19s will fit, but it's the width of the wheel which will cause the problem

It'll scrape and look like a roller skate. Why you'd want to put 19's on without lowering it is quite beyond me.

Agree. Although maybe with the right offset. What wheels are you looking at? What's the offset? What tyre size are you running now? And what tyre size do you plan on using?

I run 18x7.5 with 215/35/18 tyres, this is generally accepted to be a good combination. In reality the tyres are too narrow to offer the rims any decent protection, and I have a flat spot. I am very surprised you are getting away with your current combination, even if the ride height on the 2nd gen is higher than the 1st gen. Can I just say that if you have a flat spot on your 18x8.5s, from a pothole or similar, surely this should suggest that going any bigger with lower profile tyres is a bad idea.

Oh and I agree with the rollerskate comment too, sorry.

You may get it to work, although I think it's a bad idea. But to get any proper informed anwers to your questions you need to give us some details on offsets etc. Good luck

Hi Adam,

Is you car not hard enough on the road as it is!!!!!!!! I have 17" flame spokes on mine, and the ride quality is rock hard! 18"'s for me would be completely out of the question, never mind 19"s! You don't want your car to look too boy-racery...

They are available in 18 aswell.....no too sure what size my tyres are on my 18s at the moment but they are about 200mm thick...very thin and quite a harsh ride. I'm thinking it may be wiser to get the 18s and have a slichtly thicker tyre! The car is being done to appear ar car shows for MidzModified....its not going to be boy-racery....want it to keep its classyness.

My best bet is probable to Wheel Mania and get some wheels test fitted before i buy!

I doubt VERY much you'll get away with 235 tyres.

If you absolutely have to have 19's, go for 19x7.5 wheels with 215/35 tyres.

New Cooper S is here!

The diameter of this size is more than the recommended ±3% variation from stock.

You can run 215/35-19 tires on wheels up to 8.5" wide.

I would either keep the ones you got or look at another style of alloy cause those things are awful and deffo won't suit your car. Why don't you get some sporty alloy to match your car?

I have to agree. It seems like a lot of hassle and expense when you could get nicer wheels. Looking at your website I think your current wheels look much nicer and go really well with pepper white.

Those wheels would look dreadful on your car - they look like something you'd find on a 1989 suped-up Lexus LS400. Have you thought about flame spokes? And perhaps some black stripes for the bonnet of your car?

What ever size, these wheels would prove no class what so ever

im running 18x7.5 with 215x35x18 tyres. No rubbing and it is lowered about 40m.

I started a thread a while back asking about various sizes and one guy posted up talking about his 19's. His car was lowered and said it rubbed on hard cornering etc, and he was running 19x7.5 / 8 i think. I think it would look sick with 19"'s but maybe not those ones.

Your a crazy man!

Infact if you go on rimstyle.com you can select your car and wheel size you want and it will show all proper fitments and wheels available to you. Just an idea

You have a point PAUL c. But would you want people turning heads away from your pride and joy due to a bad set of alloys. I agree that "its in the eye of the beholder" but its nice to have some kind of common ground with others so they can share in thier beauty.

Good point as he said it will be in shows.

An one more thing, if you got a flat spot with your 18's be stupidly careful with those 19's.

Pursonally i think they look stupid. Although maybe if there were more spokes on them they mite look a little better. In that pic it looks like a HOT WHEELS toy.

My old COOPER had 18" alloys on it and they were more than enough.
