Low profile tyres?

Can low profile tyres be fitted on any wheel? Also why does the one/cooper not use low profile tyres on mini's 15" wheels? Instead they use fat ugly ones. I even see that more down market cars such as corsa's and clio's have low profile tyres? Just want to know why mini don't use them with standard rims, they look much better.

You can fit 195/60-15 or 205/55-15 tires on 15" OEM wheels.

There are no run flat tires in 15" size.

Well from what I've read, lower profile tyres give better grip and stopping power as more of the tread is on the road surface. Still puzzled as to why mini didn't decide to use wider, lower profile tyres, especially given the fact that mini's are renowned for their handling - wouldn't they handle/corner better with more grip on the road???

But wouldnt 15's with low profile tyres look really strange as there would be a massive gap from wheel to top of the arch??

oh why do the arches have to be so damn big, you can fit like 19s in them! :P anyone got pics of their mini on 15s with low profiles, if you lower it it wouldn't look so bad I guess?

Actually you can fit 20x8.5 in them if you wanted some guy in england did it. his car is now for sale on pistonheads.

I reckon if it was slammed within an inch of its lift on 15's with low profiles it would look so insanely amazing!!! lol Check out NAM for a thread called "show me your lowered S"
there are some cars on there with 16's and low profiles and also dropped as low as possible, like not being able to fit your hand under the proper bit of the bumper

If you put a low profile tyre on a 15" rim it would significantly lower the entire car. It would also reduce the ride quality, and generally be quite pointless. Low profile tyres exist to allow fitment of larger diameter wheels.

NOT TRUE ...

The lowest profile tire you can fit on a 15" OEM wheel is 205/55-15 which will only lower your car by 1mm
