Smile Aftermarket rims

All, We have been the proud owners of our cooper for eight days so far and i must admit, the 15"standard rims are letting the look of the car down.

I have seen theseon Ebay in 17" and 18" form and would value some feedback on what people think of these. I cant see the tyres being up to much at that price, but the rims are pretty nice.

18" BMW Mini Works Style Alloy Wheels with Tyres (270) on eBay, also, Wheels with Tyres, Car Wheels, Tyres Trims, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 13-Apr-08 22:00:00 BST)
feedback valued.

They would very nice on your MINI, but i would get them in the 17" size rather than 18". I always feel 18" are more for looks in my opinion.

how brutal is the ride? i have 18" s on my 5 series and it has compromised the ride without doubt.

additionally, i can get the 18's for £499 plus delivery including tyres.

My tyres are 215x35x18 so fairly low profile, with the 18's alone the ride changed a bit and was a bit harder but wasnt bad by any means. I liked the ride better on smooth roads.

The main difference was when I lowered the car, the ride got rough but only on bad roads but i still think it is a better ride than stock, i dont know why though lol

The main thing is what you want, if you like the look of 18's then go for it.

Im glad I did and alot of people on here would say the same thing

I just sold a set of these & had them on my cooper S for just over a year

The set the car of really well, put after a year of use they do start to show there aftermarket quality!!

Keep the centre caps that come with them as its impossible to get another set!!!

Shame you could have had mine!!!

I would personally keep the 17s escpecially if you using & keeping your orginall tyres

The worht the money to start of with but be warned when it comes to selling you wont get much back!!

Hope thats helps

I run 18" with 215/35/18 Non- RF which is a popular size amongst members. They look great and to be honest the ride is harsher, but I think it is only simliar to when I ran 17" with RF tyres.

Would I choose 18" again? In short no. The 215 tyres are not wide enough to offer the rim any proper protection, even if they have a rim protector. I currently have one wheel that has no pot hole damage, out of a total of five bought. And generally i am good at dodging potholes.

I also looked at the wheels you mention, and the quality put me off. The original MINI ones have a reputation for corroding, but it appears that it is a major problem on the replicas. There are two companies producing replicas, one Chinese, and one Italian. I believe from threads on here and NAM that the Italian ones are better, but still a problem.

One final piece of advice is go for light wheels, especially if you have a ONE/Cooper as heavier wheels such as the S Spokes have a detrimental effect on handling and performance.

Thats really helpful Humph, it has also ruled out 18's, although they look the biz, i cant be bothered having to repair them every other day.

I like the (bbs) styling, are there any alternatives?
