Red Cooper Why Is My Wheel Scrapping???

MY REAR(LFT I THINK) IS 'SCRAPPING' AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS A STONE AS IT ONLY DID IT WHEN I BREAKED BUT ITS NOW DOING IT ALL THE TIME!!!

SHOULD I BE WORRIED???

IT SOUNDS LIKE METAL SCRAPPING AGAINST METAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I WILL TAKE IT TO THE MINI GARAGE TOMOROW BUT ITS A GODD 16MILES AWAY AND I DONT WANT TO BREAK DOWN ON THE WAY SO IF ANYONE KNOWS WHAT IT IS OR COULD BE I WOULD BE GREATFULL.

Pip

You sure its not the brakes??

Does it get louder when you brake softly?

Mine were like this when I needed new pads and disks

you may have a stone caught in your calipers, this would scrape constantly, it may have started out only when breaking and then moved to a position where it rubs all the time.

Try reversing and gently applying the brakes - this sometimes dislodges any stones.

If it were only when breaking I would suggest pads worn down to the metal - this makes a serious metal to metal noise under breaking only.

Just take it gently on the way to the dealer and they should sort you out fine.

Good luck

John

And remember, the more you drive/brake, the more damage you do, so sort it out asap or you might need a new set of discs.

Black Cooper

hi,
thanks for all the advice.
took it to the mini garage and they realed off a load of stuff wrong with the rear left wheel which i didn't understand and said it would cost just over £200 to fix and they couldnt fit it in for nearly a week!
i cannt afford that so thought i would drop into my local car garage and they showed me exactly what was wrong and explained it in 'normal' language what work needed doing.
apparently i needed a new disk and one new break pad (but all four pads would need replacing soon anyway) they charged me just over £150 and did it the next day!!!

afew weeks ago my lights got stuck on perminant low dip and the mini garage said the motor which brings them up and down had bust. i said ok how much will it cost? they said £500!!! when i said cannt they just move the lights so they were broken in a higher position so when the lights were dipped i could see where i was going because i dont have £500. the mini garage said no.so off i went to the local garage who charged me £5 and fixed the low beam light slightly up. no one would ever know the differance!

grrrrrrrrrr mii garage!!!!!!!
