Question Goodridge Brakeline kits pre/post Sept '03- what's the difference?

Hi,

I have a 2002 MC and I ordered a Goodridge brakeline kit off eBay.

Goodridge's catalogue states that there are two kits available for the Mini-
one for cars up to Sept 2003 (SBW1100) and
one for cars from Sept 2003 onwards (SBW1150).

So I ordered the SBW1100. Well lo and behold, after a 2-week wait the kit finally arrived.... the WRONG kit.

I told the seller, and he said "I was told they are both the same kits by Goodridge - is this not the case?"

I find it hard to believe that Goodridge would bother with two separate part numbers for the same kit. And I don't want to dismantle my car, only to find out that they're NOT the same, Plus doing so would mean that this kit would be dirtied and not returnable.

So I beg of anyone out there who might have experience of both kits - ARE they interchangeable? What's the difference between them?

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Jonathan

The answer

I went to the effort of jacking the car up, removing wheels and comparing my rubber hoses to the newer Goodridges.
Of course, it's only the day AFTER I go to all the effort, that I realise I could've looked up the parts on the feckin' BMW ETK application and spotted the difference without leaving my seat...
Ugh, if I had brains I'd be dangerous.

The pre- and post- 09/03 kits are NOT interchangeable.
The front hoses are unchanged, but the fitting at the caliper end of the rear hoses is different.
On the older hose, there's a banjo fitting on the caliper end.
On the newer hose, it's a screw fitting.

NOTE: Goodridge's catalogue states the changeover date as being September 2003.
However, the ETK program states the changeover date as being APRIL 2003.

Consequently, if I were an owner of any 2003 Mini, I'd take a couple of minutes to check which type of fitting my rear hoses used before I ordered anything.

Goodridges are wrong, there where changes in Sept 03 but not to the brake hose fittings. I have a mid Sept 03 car so built late August/early Sept and it has the later fittings. You are correct though to be safe always check your own car.

Sorry I'm no help with this but I would try Lohen and ask them.

Make sure you have a copper washers on each side of the banjo and the nuts for GR hose and the brakes pipe have been tightened with two spanners to prevent leaks.

I fitted them last week with JCW calipers, R56 cross drilled 294mm disks and rear ebc turbo disks and pads with 5.1dot fuild, what a difference, touch the pads it slows down wee bit more and it stops dead.

I did it all for £50 cheaper than buying a R53 JCW brake kit fitted from the cheapest dealer.
