Squeaky Brakes

Hi

I recently had my 52 plate Cooper S serviced and part of the checks revealed that i needed new brake pads and discs all round which i had done.

After a few days of driving on the new brakes i began to notice that the brake were rubbing and causing a squeak that would stop when i pressed the brake pedal. I thought this would probably stop once the pads were bedded in and left it for a week to see if it would fix itself.

After a week the noise vanished but instead the brakes seemed to squeak only when the pedal was pushed very slightly and not all the time as before. I decided to take the car back to the dealer and get them to look at the car, but when they took the car for a test drive they couldn't hear the fault and requested that i go along for a test drive to try to point out the fault but the noise didn't occur!. But sure enough on the way home the noise reappeared

Has anyone got any expierence or advice on this as i feel a bit silly taking the car into the garage again with what seems to them to be a non existant problem?

It could be 2 things either the brakes arent fitted properly or the make of pads and disks. Mintex brought out a new brake material that squeaks.

But Mini\BMW pads aren't meant to squeak.

Try taking it to 100mph plus and then stand on the brake down to 30 mph, repeat a few times ( make sure the antilock system kicks in).

or

Turn up the music

My rear left inside pad sticks to the disk at times, I finally diagnosed the problem today. Still a dodgy caliper tho as it is not retracting.

Anyway!, yesterday took the car to near 100 and braked hard and the noise stopped for the majority of the day until the brakes cooled down.

it works but only short term.

Also, there may be dirt stuck in the pad face, check that out also

It could be that they didn't put any copper grease on the back of the pads and the squeak is the vibrations of the pads that this would normally stop.
