Right size tyres

Hi there

I'm currently in the process of looking for some new tyres for my 56 plate cooper R50 and have decided to go the non runflat option.

Needing advice on the size of the tyre (as no idea when it comes to this sort of thing), my runflats at the moment are 205/45 R17V is this the only size I can go for with my 17" bullets alloys? or can I go for 215/45 R17? (seem to be cheaper prices than the 205's) As interested in the the Goodyear F1s or Yokohama Paradas.

Also does it matter if I go for lower lettering than V?

I'm sure this has been brought up before so if you could direct me it would be appreciated

Many thanks

Theres loads of info in the FAQ section about what after market tyres can be used and an explanation of what different sizes still fall within tolerance I found it very useful when I got new wheels.

The tyre sizes you can choose from other than the stock 17" size of 205/45-17 are, 215/45-17 or 215-40/17.

When your deciding which tyre to choose, there is 2 things you need to make sure of.
(1) That the tyre matches or exceeds the stock load rating of 84.
(2) That the tyre matches or exceeds the stock speed rating of V.

If you don't then your car wont be considered road worthy .

Many thanks for all your advice on the matter

Think it will be either the Yoko Paradas 205/45 17s or the Goodyear F1s on a 215/45/17

Cheers
