Dumbest question ever - removing white R56 MCS wheels

I want to remove the wheels from my R56 MCS (the standard 17s with the Chili pack). I want to get some Tardis on the interiors and reseal them and this is a lot easier when the wheels are off the car. They've got a MINI centre plate obscuring the nuts/bolts. The plate is removed by inserting a tool in a notch and levering the plate out. The supplied screwdriver in the boot toolkit fits perfectly. But... metal tool on white paint - argh! Doesn't bear thinking about.

So, dumb question time: what tool do you lot use to safely remove the blanking plate?

I guess the manual will say what to do ????
You could wrap some tape around the screwdriver head so you don't have a metal to paint interface.

I can think of a lot dumber questions by the way

Good luck

John
