kwik fit brake pads

My warning light came on many moons ago now, I think i have got all th ware out of my brakes as i can safely,

I'm booked in tomorrow at MINI but some one said i should go to kwik fit as they give you free pads as long as you own the car ! As well as it would be much cheaper !

Has any one used kwik fit would they fit a new brake sensor or ould i still have to take it to MINI for them to do this ?

Jordan

Jordan,

I wouldn't use a group like that to entrust something like the brakes. However, the dealer will be expensive. You might try to find an independent that can do it for you. The tuners might also be able to help....

We used a few independent companies with my Brothers MINI but the pads dint last log and service was rubbish, All the tuners are too far away to get them fitted

I would imagine that quick fit pads will be rubbish as well. You could order the pads yourself and then find someone to fit them.

Buy a pair of pads and do it yourself, it's not difficult to do - you'll learn something too.

I wouldn't slag off KF, they do offer a fairly convenient service, but they will only fit generic parts.

Dig out the Yellow Pages Jordan, and let your fingers do the walking.

I don't know about the UK but in the USA, shops like that are generally not the best to find competent mechanics. That being said, here in Germany it is possible to find them. So, if you know of a KF that has good mechanics that won't try to rip you off, then go for it. I would still buy the pads elsewhere and have them install those.

I took my car to a place like that once and the entire caliper fell off.... Needless to say, I am leary of chain stores that don't have a solid reputation.

Last time I used kwik fit on one of my older cars they sheared a track rod end bolt off and used a blow torch underneath around that area to get it off. The car's steering never felt the same after that and a few months after that the car 180'd off the road on a bend one evening which I'd gone round many times with no drama. I'm not saying the two were related merely due to insurance purposes but lets just say I will never... ever use kwik fit again.

I'm not slagging all KF I'm sure there are some good ones but last time I went to get some new rubber on my company car (I have to use them) a guy was in with a Vectra in front of me for 4 new tyres and new front pads. He had the work done and left then came back in 2 mins later looking pretty angry. Seems they had changed the tyres and removed the old pads and left the new pads on the edge of the work bench. He said he'd just gone straight through a red light and just missed another car. I thought he was going to kill someone !

As MartinSSZ said have a read up and do it yourself it's very easy and you can save a fair bit of cash and know that it's been done right ?

Few months ago, I need brake change, and I read a few bad reviews about Kwik Fit service, they used to or maybe still do a service where you pay the labour but the brakes are free, but the labour is something silly like £80!

And to top that off they use cheap and nasty brakes which run down very quick (as they say nothing is free in this life)

Best thing to do, is buy the brakes yourself (I picked mine up from EBC parts or something like that) and it was £35 for the brakes and delivery, then I paid £10 for the sensor from there too.

Then I got a mate who works at ATS to fit, and slipped him £20.

Do you know anyone who can fit them for you? if not, I think the Sytner dealer only charge £120 for supply and fit.

Well had the front brakes done today by kwik fit came to £85 and will get new pads as long as i own the car, The sensor is still on tho Guessing the backs need doing too. But the bloke said if it stays on bring it in, They will have a look at it for me

Did a very good job i hope, All frendly and a nice clean place, Not like the one in Oxford! Used Banbury as was closer.

As i can see the brakes are made by Uni part so should be good

Aslong as they said they did it, and shows on the invoice that it has be counted for.

As I think even when the sensor has burned down, you can just reset the light. But then the sensor won't work again.

I might be wrong, But least you got it sorted, and it sounds like you've had a good dealing with them. Nice one

I recommend getting a pair of EBC green stuff pads they give better stopping power than OEM and generate less dust to stick to your alloys. Mini sport has them for about £40 a pair
A good independent garage will fit them for about £40- 50

My experience with Kwik fit has usally been bad - besides treating you like you were born yesterday they will usually break or bodge something

Do yourself a favour and get ride of those nasty apec pads and buy some decent ones like MINTEX or EBC. I`ve used apec in the past and their so hard that they wont stop your car and they wear away the discs at a fair rate. If you search the threads on here you should find the fitting procedure.

I've been thinking of getting them to do the pads on both my Classic Minis - as I intend to own them until I am no longer able to drive - (i.e. Dead!) it could work out a good deal (for me) in the long run!!!!!
