18" Alloys Picked... Now Tyre Advice Please

I have just paid my deposit on these new wheels for my R56 Cooper

I have had 18" Alloys on my previous MINI One with a 215/35r18 tyre, now I know this is the normal tyre of choice but I was looking for something with an extra bit of sidewall, not only to protect the rim but also to add a little extra comfort. The supplier has reccommended 215/40r18 has anyone had experience of this size of tyre . Hopefully I'll also be lowering using Eibach springs, so if I got the 215/40 how will this affect the car if lowered etc. All advice appreciated

Forgot to add... the rim is 18x7.5

ET will determaine tyre size mate. I founf that my ET 45 dare 18"x7.5" ran with no scrubbing on stock ride height, but it would have scrubbing even with 35 profile tyres if i had of fitted my KW springs

Should be fine with 4o profile - only thing is some tyres have different shoulders that others. For insyance, Toyo are more rounded than others so have more clearance.

Lies need defending all the time. The truth defends itself.

215x35 is the norm as you said but 215x40 should be fine.

Are you lowering as well??

Hehehe...

Actually, I'm not really a true Scotsman - just a pretender. I'm an Anglo-American (English parents, born in the USA) currently living in Scotland doing a PhD.

Be interested to hear what this throws up JP and what you end up going for, as I'm thinking of changing to non RFs next time I need new tyres.

If you need sorted with Eibachs, check out the linky under my sig too

Yes, deffinetly will be lowering. With the 215/40 it actually works out cheaper

I think I'll be deffinetly be going for the 215/40, just waiting to here the opinion of a highly regarded tyre fitter here in town

I registered my interest in the group buy, I'll be getting the wheels first then see where I stand

Be good to hear their thoughts, as there certainly seems to be more choice with the 215/40s... 205/40 is a pain, and the non RFs are nearly as dear as the RFs in that size

215/40R18 or 225/40R18???? Any Advice

I need some some advice from those who have fitted 215/40R18 or 225/40R18 to their R56 MINI's

I have read great reviews about the Falkon 452 so thinking of going for these any thoughts?

Regardless of which tyre you go for I would of thought the you would need to go for the 215/40 R18'S as to keep the same overall diameter. if you go for 225's then you will prob need to go for 35 profile.
