Just ordered the front pair of JCW R56 brakes for my 2003 R53 and was just wondering which Goodridge steel lines to order. Should I get the ones for R56 or for R53? If I order both front and rear lines would rear R56 lines fit on the stock back brake pair in case I do a later rear brake upgrade?

Seen that the R105s need at least a 5mm spacer for fitment with these brakes but what about the R95 spider spokes?

Mike mentioned that they are worse than the R105s - is a 10mm spacer needed?

Thanks.

Hi -thinking of fitting the BBK's to my 04 MCS JCW. Some questions:

1. What spacer size is required for 17" S-Spokes?
2. Would doing the fronts only be a big problem in terms of brake balance. Not too keen on cutting away a bit of the trailing arms?
3. On the R56 is states that a software reset is required for the ABS, have not seen any comments about resets on the R53, probably no upgraded sw available in any case
4. Other option is to fit the R53 JCW sport brake kit, advantage is that no new hoses or mods are needed - is this option really a waste of time now that the Brembo's are available?

Thanks for any comments

I am starting to reach the same conclusion, R53 JCW kit. Read an interesting article on NAM concerning brake bias front/rear. The new JCW Brembos has not been engineered for the R53, on the R56 according to the install pdf an software upgrade needs to be loaded to ensure the ABS/ABD etc work correctly. Not too keen on spacers and doing fronts only, rear installation also has its issues. Coming up to a disc & pad (fronts) replacement soon, would then be the time to put in the R53 BBK. Big or rather huge in the case of the Brembos is not necessarily better if it not properly matches as a total system. Thanks

I'm thinking of getting these just on the fronts on my R50 cooper, does anyone know what size spacers I will need for R90's? Or if they'll even fit behind them at all??

Not sure but on the R95 you need at least 7mm to clear. Thats an offset of et 45 if that helps...

Dont know about the R90s though...

5mm wasnt quite enough. I ran mine with 12mm but anything from 7mm would be sufficient - 10mm is probably the best compromise/easiest to come accross and would work.

I'm installing r56 brembo front brakes to my r53 next week, ordered my gooridge r56 hoses via lohen.

Whats the clearance between R105 to the calliper using 5mm spacers?

Do I need to install extended wheel bolts to be safe or can i stay with the original bolts?

thanks in advance

Me again.

The R105 wheels will fit with just a 2mm spacer (but 3mm is better). No problems to date with the standard bolts using either of these, but I am using the later 14mm stud wheel bearings.

My car has just failed its MOT though due to excessive corrosion of one of the front discs. While this explains the brake vibration, it's a bit irritating. Anyone else had problems?
