my brakes have arrived and i have fitted the fronts with no problems at all. However when i took the car out i found that there was alot of shaking from the steering wheel. is this down to the wheels not being quite central or is it the 12mm spacers i had to use to fit my alloys on?Also i have found that with fitting the new brake pad sensor the light will not go off is it a case of re setting it?

I havent got round to sorting the rears out yet but will be on with that today.Has anyone done this yet on their r53. I was told i may need an R56 hand brake cable??

Cheers

Phil

Did i bit work yesterday on the brakes the front are amazing and the rears i have altered so that you do not need to change the R53 hand brake cable!I simply used a dremel to make the square hole round in order to accept the round hand brake cable will post pics later. All i now need is the R56 rear hoses to accept the calipers as the r53 hoses use a bigger bolt then we will be laughing ...JOB DONE"

So as for fitting to the R53 all we need is to change the front hose and rear then mod the rear calipers?

Is the front line the R56 or is it custom and the same question for the rears?
Can't wait to get mine

Also can anyone get the diammeter of the R53 hand brake cable fitting so I can machine mine out when I get them

Yeah the rears diameter is 17mm exactally!

All i used was a file on one and then found taht the most exact way to do it ws to use my mates dremmel with the round sanding bit in it as it just fits and allows it to be spot on.

I took the little brackets off each rear caliper as it was easier to put them in the vice to dremmel out that way! Real doddle took all of 5 min! You will need a star drive to take the brakets off though and i would recomend a bit if lock tight when you put them back on. At least there is no need for the R56 Hand beake cable as that would have been a pain to fit, a bit chewy.

I bought a goodridge braded hose kit for an r 53 but have found that you need to r56 for the rears but you can probably get away with
the r53 hoses on the front only

Hope this helps all the R53 peeps wanting to know if the kit fits the car ok.....answer is NO PROBS AT ALL!!!

Why not just swap the brackets?

If you're fitting R56 Works brakes to an R50-53 you have to use the R56 front hoses as the two cars use completely different fixings at the caliper end.

Tell me more details of how the rear hoses differ...

Its not possible to swap the brackets as on the R53 the hole whhic the hand brake cable sits in is part if the caliper casting and is not a bracket.

The goodridge hose set i have is for an R53 and the front hoses do fit but they have to be streched and this is not a good idea so an R56 brake hose set is required.

Th rears are totally different as the calipers whcih come with the JCW kit require again the R56 hoses whchi appear to be exactally the same as the front in terms of the way wihch they screw into the caliper. The r53 hoses do not directly screw into the caliper they have a bolt wihch screws into the caliper with a hole in it to allow the brake fulid to flow through.

Also the thread size of this bolt is also different it is a bigger thread on the R53 compaired withe the r56

will post some pics to explain better and show you the simple mods required. Safety of the kits has not been comprimised and will fit pritty much like for like.

Just a pic of the bad boys on the front will get some fo the calipers as well so you can see the mods i made to the brackets

No they don't. Go to the site sponers Wollaston they have an offer for these brakes. They include a pdf file with all the answers for OEM wheels.

In the US this is not completely correct Phil. I would think it the same for you.

The 2002 R53 rears use a BANJO BOLT rear hose as you describe. This has a 12mm fluid bolt securing the hose to the caliper.

All the later cars use a straight M10 thread that screws directly into the caliper.

Here at least the same R53 hoses fit the R56 rear with no issue. Here is the 2003+ hose as we know it:
