Scuffed one of my Alloys

I have scuffed one of the rims on my White 17" S Spokes on a curb - Dough, what can I do ?

1. Buy a replacement wheel ? (Has any one got one :-))
2. Repair it ? If I need to repair it how would I go about this - with it being an Aluminium alloy. Is it pobbible to gring it down and paint over or will the dealer do this for me ?

Ok the car doesn't look that bad, but I will get something done at some stage. I havn';t damaged any of my old bangers for the past 5 years and within 2 months I've scraped the body work and now scuffed an alloy - grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!! I think I'm being too careful !

Hi there,

I also scuffed my alloy within 2 weeks of having my cooper However, after careful consideration I decided that it was very likely that I'd do it again and therefore it'd be a waste of money to get it propoerly repaired.

Basically what I did, with a little help from MINI2 forums is track down the exact color of the Alloys and buy a touch up brush from Halfords - the colour you need is Daewoo Casablanca White which is an exact match.

Then basically go over the scuffed areas in thin layers. leave bout 30 mins between layers for the paint to dry. Don't try and paint too much in one go otherwise the paint will sag and drip. And make sure you clean the wheel thoroughly before you start otherwise you'll have a grey paint job. I was pretty happy with my results but it depends on how badly the wheel is scuffed, about 1/3rd of my wheel rim was scuffed through to the metal.

That's what I did anyway, hope it helps...

have a good time, all the time...

Cheers m8, sounds about what I had in mind as I agree with you that I will more than likely scuff something else again at some stage. I think I may smooth the edges with a dremel drill thingy and then apply the paint as said above. Did you take the wheel off to do the above or did you do whilst on the car ?

I've never actually taken a wheel off a car in my life! But then I've never had to...

Nah, I just got on my knees after I had washed it. Just so long as you can see clearly where your painting you should be alright...

Over here in US/Canada, there are wheel repair shops that specializes in repairing damaged high end alloy wheels. They repair and refinish the wheel for about $85-125 depending on extent of damage. They do an excellent job and your damaged wheel will look like brand new!

Perhaps you can check the yellow pages and see if you have a similar repair facility at your end.

Alloy repair seems to be a bit of headache for us MINI owners. I emailed Chipsaway in London, but they say they won't touch my silver S-Spoke witha 1.5inch scrape because the wheel's final coat is some sort of fine plastic finish as opposed to standard lacquer. And are worried they won't be able to match a localised repair. MINI dealer hasn't returned any of my calls. Might have to shell out on a new wheel

Can anyone confirm this coating is real? I am going to have to wash the car eventually and face seeing that wheel in all it's scraped glory!!!!

Silver 17" alloy wheel repair

This thread ran out of steam but I am interested in whether allow wheel renovators can repair the 17"ers on my MCS as I have also scuffed one.

Is this plastic coating thing true?

Anyone know if your normal alloy wheel renovator will touch them?

I scratched my rim tonight too, and although a friend said that every new car needs at least one scar, I still feel as if my child has been deflowered. Any suggestions for touching up the stock silver 7-hole wheels? I have never heard of wheel paint touch-up kits, but they may exist. Also, will the bare metal rust? I assume they are steel. Oh, I feel dumb. I now have a much clearer picture of my MINI's turning radius, as consolation. It's just an inch wider than the street I was making a U-turn on.
