Unhappy R53 - MCS. Which brakes from Euro Car Parts?

Hi all,

Haven't posted for some time - work now has me racking up 2000miles a month which has more or less killed my joy of driving

Anyhoo, doing a lot of motorway miles I think my brakes have done me well. I have a R53 2005 facelift MCS, and just crossed 50k miles and my brakes have started to squeal.

I've looked thru the forum but the posts seem to be regarding performance upgrading brakes rather than replacing stock for stock.

Had a service a fortnight ago, and BMW told me I needed 4 new pads and 2 new discs. They wanted 480+vat and I told em where to go!

Have found a nice friendly garage who have said they will do the work for 50£ cash which I'm quite happy with.

Interested in ordering the brakes/discs I need from Euro Car Parts but wanted some advice on which to order. I just want standard brakes nothing special, just the equivalent of stock brakes.

On their site, brand-wise they have

Front pads: jurid oem, eicher, ferodo (currently out of stock), ate and ebc greenstuff.
Front discs: ate and eicher
Rear pads: textar, eicher, ferodo (again out of stock), ate, ebc greenstuff
Rear discs: ate and eicher

I gather from posts that the ebc greenstuff pads aren't worth it.

I was thinking to just go for ate or eicher throughout to keep the branding the same, or is it worth waiting for the ferodo pads?

Sorry for the long post, just wanted to provide enough info to make it easy to answer.

Ta
Aslan

I hear from the guy who did my brakes today that the greenstuff ones are really good as they're made out of a different material which brakes better!

It's a Mini Adventure.

ATE are what was fitted to your mini from the factory.

Every set of worn out EBC pads I have removed are always cracked and have fallen off the metal backing plate, but then maybe thats driver abuse!

Mintex make some well priced pad and dics sets.

alot of people on here say that carbo-tech pads are the pads to get, they brake like a big brake kit but cost a fifth. and get the spiroslot brake discs from gt-tuning, thats what set-up im getting at the end of the month.

If you want to see carbotechs in use have a look at our section and the Bert videos running carbotech pads with stock calipers!

Also the GTT Spiro slots are a good cheap upgrade with two pad choices.

If you had the brakes done by your dealer, they would use Jurid pads.

If you are wanting to go for the same as your dealer would fit, you need these:

Quote:
JURID OEM n/a 101120010 FRONT BRAKE PADS ALL MINI MODELS
Front pads £34.95

ATE n/a 104120010 FRONT BRAKE DISC (V) MINI ALL MODELS
Front disc £26.95

ATE n/a 101120025 REAR PADS MINI ALL MODELS
Rear pads £20.95

ATE n/a 104120020 REAR BRAKE DISC MINI ALL MODELS
Rear disc £24.95

Stock discs will be okey, just look for some better pads.. If you want to buy from ECP then the Greenstuff will be better than standard but just not the best available.

Green stuff

Just to add additional personal experience:

The green stuff pads are fine for most of their life. I bought then due to the less dust (white wheels) and the possibility of a performance advantage.
The do seem to produce a little less dust (judging by wheel cleaness) but the difference is not amazing. Performance - didn't notice a difference.

Just make sure you change them before they get worn right down. One of my front pads is crumbling so I'm having to get the brakes done a month earlier than planned. They were fine for 3 years and were getting very worn, but as noted in an earlier post in the thread this seems to be common as they get to the end of their life.

I'll be replacing with ATE.

Mini: Drive and feel alive.
